We had the good fortune of connecting with Derron and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derron, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Black Visual Entertainment because of my passion for music, audio, and media. I’ve also always enjoyed helping people. So I thought to myself, what better way to indulge in all those things then to create a business around it. It felt natural to me, given the fact that I have been a self-starter since I was a child.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel what sets me apart from most is my genuine soul. I don’t care to take all of your money, credit, or shine. I just want to do what I love daily while helping people in the process. I’m excited to learn more in audio, video, and media altogether. I never feel like I know it all so anytime you work with me, you see that growth! For the longest, no one really saw my work ethic behind closed doors. Once I went more public with my work, new clientele slowly, but surely, began booking me. It didn’t come EASY necessarily, but because of how much I would work on my skill set it didn’t feel like the most difficult thing in the world either. I’d say my journey has been time consuming more than anything, but I’ve grown to be a lot wiser to adversities in this business that way. Throughout my career, I’ve learned that you need to continue to develop in order to handle new obstacles that may come about. For example, clientele expectations will vary the more you get, so knowing your craft is vital. I would want the world to know that I am a professional that gets better every time you work with me; able to handle and fix more messes each and every time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definitely bring people to The Star at Frisco, Legacy West at Plano, and Grandscape Frisco. Plenty of good food to eat, places to shop, and an experience you won’t forget. Each day you’ll have a new place to chow down, buy some cool stuff, and enjoy your free time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I genuinely give glory to God for my blessings. Underneath that would be my supportive family and close friends, for sure. They never discouraged me from acting on my passions. I wouldn’t be who or where I am today without them.
