Meet Delia Gonzales | Lash Tech

We had the good fortune of connecting with Delia Gonzales and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Delia, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
I started from just selling lashes (which I still do) to doing lash extensions. The beauty industry is such a huge demand. After about 6 months of selling lashes I started noticing my regulars tell me you should do lash extensions. I was like is that really the in thing now? I started to notice on my social media lash extensions pictures and supplies and even a few friends that were posting pictures. My daughter even wanted to do it. I found someone to help me along my journey. She has been an amazing mentor and still pushes and motivates me to keep going. The beauty industry can be tough. I won’t even lie there have been times that I wanted to just give up because there is a lot of competition. I would look at other ladies work and be like I wish I was as good as them. I had to learn that you will attract your own clientele. My work vs someone else’s has totally changed my mentality. You can’t compare yourself to someone else. That can destroy you mentally and make you think you won’t be successful. There have been times I was slow and wonder why? I am posting my work consistently so why aren’t I getting any appointments. I had to learn you have to do more than just post on social media. I had to promote myself more by networking. Word of mouth is powerful. Never giving up on yourself.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Lash extensions is art to me! We can do so many different lash sets. We can add color and use various sizes and lengths. I still want to add other services such as microblading but that will come in the near future. I feel like once you start in the beauty industry it’s constant learning and also so many things that are available to help make a woman feel beautiful. I love making a woman feel beautiful with a new set of lashes. My biggest challenge is overcoming comparison of my work vs someone else’s. I learned I need to keep pushing forward. You work speaks for itself. You will attract the right clients along the way. I’ve have only been doing lash extensions since May 2021 so I know I have not learned everything I needed to as of now but I know it’s taught me to keep pushing forward no matter what life throws at me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend and I are always talking about the beach! My family lives in Corpus Christi! My kids and I love the beach. I would love to go to the beach. It’s so relaxing hearing the waves. I would love to go on the board walk and eat at a restaurant and have a few drinks. I’m very humble person I don’t expect fancy dinners and all that but just to have a drink and look at the beach front is what I’d love and even be in a hotel where the beach is the backyard. I don’t really like to plan things I like to go about my day and see what it has to offer.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Casey Hendon has been my mentor. She continues to help me out and help motivate me. Once I feel discouraged I will go straight to her. She always responds and is a great leader. I also met some very awesome people along the way. Miriam Garcia has helped me on a business wise point of view. She once said there can be 10 other people selling or doing the same thing you do but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t people who won’t like your work. Which is very true! My kids are also my biggest motivators. Most importantly I am motivated by Rodoe he keeps me motivated and brings me up especially when I need it. I currently have two friends Aly and Brenda who are also lash techs we confide in each other also boost each other up.
