We had the good fortune of connecting with DeAriel Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DeAriel, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The single most important decision that contributed most to my success is just simply putting myself out there. For years I questioned my abilities, doubted my talents, and always seemed to second-guess myself. I lacked the confidence I needed to be great and successful. I learned that I had to build confidence in myself and my God-given talents and gifts. Then and only then will I see true success, and everything else will fall into place.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a singer and musician with a foundation in Gospel music. I grew up in the church, and that is where my musical journey began. Although I appreciate many genres of music, Gospel will always be my foundation in how I create music. I have always had a strong love for music, and being in the church allowed me to cultivate my musical gifts. Being a singer and musician created great opportunities for me. A few years ago, I was elevated to the Minister of Music position at my local church, Faith Central Church. This was one of the many opportunities that have allowed me to gain valuable information about music in general. Along my journey, it has not always been easy. As stated earlier, one of my greatest obstacles was doubting myself and lacking confidence in my abilities. Sometimes I still struggle with that. I just have to constantly remind myself that God has trusted me enough to give me these gifts, and I have to use them. So now, I just got for it. If I have an idea in my mind, I just got for it. With this, I find that some of the doubt ceases. For this year, that is going to be my motto, “Just Go For It.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a home-body, so I love being at home in my own space. Usually, I would say we could do something, like watch movies or play games at my home. But, I understand that is not ideal for a week-long itinerary. We would definitely eat out almost every day, and two of the restaurants we would for sure go to are Benihana and Olive Garden. Benihana is just a great restaurant with great food. One might be asking why would I choose Olive Garden. For some reason I love pasta, and Olive Garden is my go-to when I want some pasta. Now that we have the food taken care of, planning where we would go is the tricky part. Again, I like staying home, so I would struggle to find a place I would want to go to. I do like watching basketball, so we could probably catch a Dallas Mavericks game and spend some time in Downtown Dallas. Also, we could take a trip to Six Flags. As one can see, I am not the best planner because I would say “I don’t know” to mostly everything. But I have a fun personality, so they would enjoy just being in my presence.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family has always been supportive of me. When I didn’t believe in myself, they believed in me. They played a major role in building the confidence I needed in myself.
