We had the good fortune of connecting with Darrellene Lindsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darrellene, what makes you happy? Why?
At Darrellene Designs, our tag line is “We create art to encourage you and make you smile”. If I can encourage a friend or a stranger with a fun whimsical lazy susan, coaster, pillow, mug, or fun piece of wall art that makes me happy. Those emails or notes from happy customers encourage me and make me smile.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At Darrellene Designs, we create art with a vintage French style. This inspiration came from our desire to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary with a piece of art reflecting our love for each other and remembering our engagement in Paris across from the Eiffel Tower. Friends so loved the hand-painted art inspired by a French cheese label we decided to spread the love with Darrellene Designs. All of our original art is hand-painted by Darrellene, Tommy and Delaney Lindsey and then printed as giclee directly to wood to create our signature art, lazy susans and coasters. We are constantly adding new items such as fun pillows, mugs and aprons with all of our art. “We create art to encourage you and make you smile!”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was coming – We would visit Historic downtown McKinney for sure. All the little shops are a must and I love to support local business owners. We would probably enjoy lunch at Patina Green, get some pie at the Pantry, and then enjoy pizza at Mellow Mushroom. We might need to make it a two-day event so we can hit all the little shops. We could relax the next day and go to a movie at Cinemark West Plano, eat some Mexican food at Mi Dia from Scratch right by the movies and then enjoy yogurt at Pinkberry.

If the weather is great we could plan a visit to Arbor Hills to do some walking to walk off all that food we’ve had and then we could run to Eatzi’s to pick up some items for lunch or dinner, so we don’t have to cook. If she still felt like shopping, we could make a quick trip to Stonebriar mall and check out the sales there and just grab something at the food court.

We would also go to Legacy West and visit all the great shops and let her pick the restaurant there. Not sure if we have enough time to fit it all in. Sunday we would attend Prestonwood Church for great worship and then enjoy the buffet there. Then home to visit and relax before she heads out.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband Tommy and my REFINE Community of women business owners and entrepreneurs. My husband has always been more than supportive of the business and Teri Johnson and REFINE are helping me to stay the course and take the next right steps to grow and scale and pivot when I need to. I’m so blessed to be the REFINE Chapter Leader here in Plano to help other Christian Women business owners to come together to support each other. I love helping others and that also makes me happy!
