We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Kung and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
We are constantly looking for ways to be involved. Starting with something as simple as a community board in the cafe, we also prominently display art from local artists on our walls, host pop-up events for local craft artisans or bakers, host community tastings for people interested in learning more about food and beverages they may not usually seek such as Matcha, Thai Teas, etc. We also support the local Murphy and Wylie school systems by sponsoring academic and athletic clubs throughout the year.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would say the number one key to my success has been not to ignore opportunities when they come knocking. Whether you’re contemplating applying for a job or opening a business, take the risk. Don’t take failure as an end to the journey, take it as a boulder to climb over and keep pressing on.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I absolutely love the Dallas World Aquarium; I’ve enjoyed countless days visiting and there’s always something new to see. I also love the Dallas Farmers Market area, it’s one of the biggest I’ve been too and there’s tons of great local artisans/artists to explore. Lastly, I’m a sucker for anything Tex-Mex, nothing beats it outside of Texas!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to mention Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea as a brand. They really gave me an opportunity nearly 3 years ago to open my first location in Chicago. I was a new prospective business owner that many brands wouldn’t take the risk to work with, however through my determination and their willingness to accept me into the Sweetwaters family, I was able to get my entrepreneurial start. Flash forward 2 years and I received a much quicker “green light” to own a cafe here, in Murphy, Texas.
