We had the good fortune of connecting with Cynthia Acosta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cynthia, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Nothing is an accident. Everything happens in alignment or as some people would say ‘in Gods time’.
There have been more times than I can count that I thought about packing up my supplies and deleting my social media and going back the medical field. But my heart was already in too deep and the right hemisphere of my brain refused to rest. I love fashion and creativity. I couldn’t give up!! We want what we want because our future self already has it. That’s what keeps me pushing through low sale and low order valleys.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from other fedora designers is the fact that I infuse all my fedoras with love, peace and protection on a mastery level. I am a Reiki Master and Shamanic Practitioner. I am honored to be able to wrap my clients crowns with those blessings. I may not be able to change the whole world, but I’m happy to help change the world of one person. One fedora at a time. And that makes me proud.

I got where I am today professionally by not giving up and staying focused on my dream. When something is meant for you, you cant run from it. It has not always been easy. Designers go through feelings of insecurity and rejection. Lets be honest! Will they like it? Is it right? Is it ugly? Why haven’t i made any sales? We are constantly judged. I get past it by saying, if someone doesn’t like my style, they aren’t meant for me and that’s ok. For every one person that isn’t with me, there’s 10 behind them liking, sharing and ordering. And I’m cool with that.

One big lesson I have learned along the way is to value my skill and time so much more! I have been burned by so many ‘influencers’! I’ve mailed out over $2,000 worth of fedoras in exchange for promoting/posting/mentions and got nothing. Its my fault. I didn’t have a contract in place because I’m a firm believer that a man is only as good as his word. I learned that hard way and no longer use influencers. I don’t have time for contracts either. lol

I want the world to know that my brand is all about confidence and healing. The world will be a better place once people start to heal and learn to love themselves FIRST. We cant give what we don’t have.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Quickly:

WestJax Cigar Lounge (FW)
Eddie V’s (FW)
Doc B’s (FW)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say my higher self and a dream. I really didn’t have anyone who triggered the crave to excel in hat design. I was simply scrolling through social media one evening and saw a lady designing a hat. I thought it was nice and said to myself, “I bet I can make that!” I gathered the materials, posted it and it sold in a day!! That was my sign that I started something good.
On the back end of things, I would like to recognize my Mom, Husband & Children for believing in me. I have the best cheer squad any designer could ask for. My Mom has helped me gather supplies and given me incredible ideas (she’s a creative as well). My husband has gone to bed many nights alone because I was lost in a hat and determined to make it perfect before I closed my eyes for the night. And my children are my little hype men! Their love & support means everything to me. They are very patient with me on my busy days.
