We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Jimenez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, how do you think about risk?
My biggest risk taking was coming into this business with zero clients. None. So when I took that leap of faith I have continuously relied on God for provision. I started my business with nothing. I came out of pocket for the things I needed. I work part time at my college’s library for barely anything. So I had to balance that and find good deals in the bigger things I needed like a stylist chair. I have been very blessed to keep getting clients to cover my rent. I know being a new business it takes time but it will be worth the wait.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well I have been doing hair and been licensed since I was 19 years old! The challenges of it all has been rewarding because I am a fighter. There were and are those days that I doubt myself. Am I doing enough? Not enough? But, I keep going. I got where I am today because I have met many people who come from different walks of life. Many of which felt comfortable enough to tell me secrets, life’s problems, personal issues, etc and I listened with no judgement. Learning to be intentional with my listening, I went to college for psychology. So my plans are take what I have learned and bring it to the salon incorporating together my two passions so I can better understand my clients on many levels. One thing that I have learned is that no matter how good I can be at what I do, staying humble and honest with clients gets me further than being a flake. I have turned clients away on services I was not comfortable doing. They loved that. They come back. Another thing is that you cannot please everyone and that was hard for me because I perform services. So I, myself, expect nothing but perfection when doing a clients hair. So I had to learn no what matter what I did to be perfect the client(s) will find something to complain about. So letting it go and breath is best.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oooh that is a loaded question! Dallas is HUGE! Lol hmmm well for sure downtown. There is just so much to see from art, graffiti, restaurants, stores, down to Clyde Warren Park, Ross Perot Museum, the aquarium, Bishop Arts District, Deep Ellum. There is just so much.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost God. There was a lot of prayer and doubt. He gave me my vision and showed me what I am supposed to be doing. So I am currently still playing that out. Next my husband Jose. He supports me in everything I do. I am talented in different fields and he supported all my shenanigans. So when I finally told him what I was doing he was ecstatic. Next my best friend Rachel, Christie and Erica. They showed me their support as well. And of course my sister Rhianna and my Aunt Virginia. All those closest to me are definitely my cheerleaders. I could not do any of this without God and my family.
