We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Culpepper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Without Risk there is no Reward. Starting Your own business is a true dedication within yourself. Taking risks proves that you believe in yourself, your vision, your end goal. Most importantly your Faith in God has to be more significant. Taking risk has afforded me to be in the position I am in now. I took a Risk going off to college, away from family and friends (1st time ever).

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My current profession is in Law Enforcement . I’m a Police Officer with DISD. Getting here has been fairly easy being that I go for what I want. Growing up I would tell myself that I want more then my surroundings. So every decision I’ve made has been intentional to ensure that I succeed. Being a school police officer is important to me bc I hv the opportunity to be impacted before our students enter into the real world. I also found a way to merge my passion and my purpose by creating a program “Cake, Cops and Convos’, to facilitate positive communication between officers and our youth. What I want ppl to know is that CarnellsCakery is an example of Strength, Family, Love, and Blessings. Although we are not perfect by no means, the qualities that we as a business embodies allows us to be encouraging to others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I’m kind of a home body so basically I will google things to do LOL. All the things I want to do but don’t . We would visit Kylde Warren Park for sure. Hit up the food truck. Go hang in uptown Mockingbird area and walk the shops and eateries. Drive to some outlet malls.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course my mother bc w/o her there is no me (period). She is my right hand WOMAN. The Bakery carries her name “Carnell”. My Late Brother(Spud) his death is the inspiration behind our Cake Business. We recognize this quote “Push Through bc Sometimes Pain brings Pleasure” -Karletha Cook
