We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Brinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am an artist because I see. I look at spaces and have the ability to create gardens within specified parameters. The design part of creating fits me as I love to take shapes, colors, textures, seasons of interest, scents, flowering times and put it into the ground. Best part of garden design is watching it evolve over time as the plants grow. I further expand on my creative pursuits with pruning and shaping. Maintaining gardens is an art form in itself as every season is new. I live my artist expression with plants. It is a never ending story of discovery and development. Owning a business is how I am able to create my art. Horticulture is the art and science of cultivating plants and gardens

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an artist first and foremost but I am also a realist. Art is many things. I choose garden design because it always brings creative challenges.
Plus I can create growing solutions for clients.
Attitude is where it’s all at. Loose the ego and you will find success.
My success is having a home which I finally accomplished at 45.
Star Garden Studio is my vision of all things home/garden.
From house plants to housewares. I also have mini artist gallery.
The location is perfect too in an old mill next to the sea

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m not a social person! I’m a crab who likes to be home with her cat and gardens.
But if it’s Sunday @7:00 I’ll be at the rink with my roller skates.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My grandmother Arlene for it was her that made me tough. Growing up with boys and having to stand my ground. Dave and Cheryl Burnett they owned and operated an incredibly fantastic garden center. Where I learned about speaking up, organization works, and that you need a team to accomplish things. My partner Kenneth Jardin who always encourages and supports me even in my worst moments of self doubt. And all the clients who love their yards. Thank you!
