We had the good fortune of connecting with Colton Purscell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Colton, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When it came time to start my business, I wanted to find a way to help the patients and the community in way that was bigger than me or making
money. I chose the name “Patriot” not only because I love our country but I
wanted to serve a higher purpose. The goal of Patriot is to eventually offer
veterans and active duty the best care on the market but have practice
members cover their bill. The men and women that serve this country have
put their bodies through so much and they deserve to have access to the
best care in the world. The thought process is how can I serve this
population for free while also trying to make a decent living. How cool
would it be for a High school athlete to be getting treatment next to a purple
heart recipient?

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

As far as setting myself apart from others, I would say it’s the time and quality care I provide my patients. A veteran can go to the VA wait in the waiting room for 45 min see the doctor for 5 min and leave with a pill or shot and no one asked them how their day was. I did not want that. I spend 1 hour 1-on-1 with the people in my office. Often times when someone goes to another provider they are in and out in 5-10 minutes. That person may know there name and that they are in pain, but do they take the time to find out why they really got hurt or why they finally came to see you, they feel like a number. If you just stop getting to know them after you hear the word “pain” you could be missing the fact that they cant pick up their kids because of pain, or I cant run because my knee hurts, and the only reason they want to run is so they can push their daughter who is in a wheelchair in a Thanksgiving 5k. Getting people out of pain is easy and generally there is always a cheaper option, but not everyone just want easy and cheap they want high quality personal care. That is what sets me apart. I ask the why.
Was it easy? yes and no. I tried hard to surround myself with great people and leaders to help point me in the right direction when starting a business, but starting a cash based business when there is a $20 copay office down the street is definitely a risk. It’s not always about getting hundreds of people through the door it is about getting the right 10 patients in the door and building from there. Control what you can control and adapt and overcome from what you can’t. The only things absolute in this world are taxes and death, I’m not dying right now, and I’m not an accountant. Be patient and and make the right decision when you’re ready, but when you’re ready jump high and jump far, gives you more time to figure it out on the way down.
I’m more than just a chiropractor, more than just a guy from Fort Worth Texas, more than Patriot Chiropractic and Sport Performance, I help empower people change their lives for the better, one day at a time. Wake up everyday and try to be a better person you were the day before. I just happen to put a shirt on with my company logo when I get dressed. Be thankful, live hard, take risks, and try to be a better person you were the
day before. Success will come to those who take the most hits and keep
getting up ready to take more. “Develop success from failures.
Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Stock Yards hands down. Grab a dinner at Joe Ts and then maybe catch a concert at Billy Bobs, Finally finish the night bar hopping at on of the famous dance bars on Exchange. If they stay a week we may check out the Reata down town or head over to the new South Main area and pop in one of the new bars over there. Definitely going back to the stockyards more than once to grab some more food or a drink at Hotel Drover or Second Rodeo. If It’s a Friday or Saturday can we catch a rodeo? I have been all over the world and plenty of the top cities in the US, Fort Worth is one of the most unique secret cities in the world. Heck its the 13th Largest city in the US and yet there are still people that have never heard of it. Honestly I like it that way, Let it stay a secret, I like when my friends haven’t been here. Its nice to show someone something special for the first time, and until the rest of the world finds out the drinks will stay cheaper.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There have been so many people who have helped me get to where I am today. Starting with the most important, my parents. They own and operate
a small custom drapery and interior design business here in Fort Worth. I
have had the pleasure and unique opportunity over the last 29 years to
witness the level of hard work and sacrifice it takes to run your own
business. I have watched the business grow from a small startup out of our
dining room into what most people would call a successful business today.
As we grew, their business grew. If my sisters and I wanted to play select
sports, the latest clothes, or receive a better education, the business had to
grow. I did not realize at the time the “on-the-job” training I was getting to
experience every day. As I begin my small business journey, I am definitely
leaning heavily on their experience and advice as I start my own adventure.
Moving back to Fort Worth, I knew I needed to cover some of the basics of
getting the business off the ground. I reached out to Anthony DeFelice,
owner of Amplus Agency, here in town. He and his amazing team helped
guide me through some of the startup processes to get where I am today.
Finally, I would like to shout out to my fellow chiropractic classmates and
friends who helped encourage me to believe in myself, and because I know
he would be mad if I left him out, Dr. Justin Rabinowitz. Thanks for pushing
me to push my limits and helping me see my potential.
