We had the good fortune of connecting with Color and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Color, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Our main goal from the beginning has been to create music that connects — both emotionally and rhythmically. We wanted to build something meaningful with fellow musicians, where people could truly relate to the lyrics and feel moved by the message, while also enjoying the groove and energy of the music. That balance between complexity and accessibility is very important to us.

As a duo from Bogotá, Colombia now living in Dallas, TX, starting our own music project was a way to stay independent and intentional about our sound. We draw from Afro-Colombian, Afro-Latin, jazz, soul, and reggae influences to create songs that are rich in culture and storytelling, but also engaging for diverse audiences. Despite the challenges of time, money, and opportunities, we’ve stayed focused on making music that resonates deeply while staying musically sophisticated and fresh.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What truly sets us apart as a band here in Dallas is our Colombian roots — especially in the way we incorporate Afro-Colombian and Afro-Latin rhythms into our music. It’s not something you see often in this city, and it brings a fresh and authentic flavor to our sound. But beyond the music itself, we are deeply intentional with our lyrics. Our songs carry messages about social issues, reflections on life, and encouragement to keep going despite difficulties. We want people to dance, yes — but also to feel, think, and connect.

The journey hasn’t been easy at all. Everything we’ve built has come from hard work and dedication. From recording in studios with the help of friends, to investing in our own equipment to improve the quality of our sound, we’ve had to hustle and make things happen with the resources we have.

When things haven’t worked out, we’ve chosen to reflect, learn from the experience, and keep moving forward with faith that the right spaces and opportunities will come. That mindset has been essential in helping us grow — not just as musicians, but as people.

We want the world to know that Color Nativo is more than a band — it’s a living story of migration, identity, and resilience. Our music is a bridge between cultures, and every song is an invitation to feel, to move, and to remember that we all have something powerful to share.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If our best friend came to visit, the first place we’d take them would be Bishop Arts — it’s one of our favorite spots in Dallas. It’s full of amazing restaurants, artistic spaces, and live music venues like Revelers Hall, where you can catch incredible musicians playing all kinds of styles. The vibe there is creative, fun, and very community-oriented.

Another stop would be the Dallas Museum of Art. It’s not just about the art itself — the museum tells so many stories about history, culture, and identity, which really inspires us as artists.

We’d also take a day to walk through the Dallas Arboretum. It’s a peaceful, beautiful space that shows off the nature and landscape that makes Texas unique. It’s a great place to unwind and reflect.

And of course, we’d wrap up the week with a visit to Greenville Avenue — there’s no shortage of great restaurants, cool bars, and live music. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy good food, good company, and the creative energy of the city.

Dallas has a lot to offer — but what makes it special to us is how it blends culture, music, and people from all over.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We absolutely want to dedicate our shoutout to our families. From the very beginning, they believed in our talent and saw the potential in us to pursue a life in music. Their encouragement, trust, and constant support gave us the courage to follow this path — even when it wasn’t easy or guaranteed.

Thanks to their belief in us, we’ve been able to achieve things that are truly invaluable — from recording our music, to performing on different stages, to staying grounded in who we are as artists. Their love has been a constant source of strength and motivation, and we carry that with us in every song we write and every show we perform.
