We had the good fortune of connecting with Cliff & Jan Hand and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cliff & Jan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When we started Recherche Furnishings, Inc. 10 years ago in Rowlett, TX, we wanted to meld our unique backgrounds, have the freedom from our corporate jobs, and create a product that was “green”. As a husband and wife team, we bring different backgrounds to the table and wanted to be able to use both our creative abilities and operational experiences. Most of all we wanted to be able to keep old wood out of the landfills by utilizing reclaimed wood.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Great places to eat in DFW: Chuys’s on Knox/Henderson for some awesome authentic Tex-Mex, Bubba’s for greasy spoon breakfast in Highland Village, Fireside Pies on Knox/Henderson for some great pizza and cheese salad, Angry Dog in Deep Elum for an amazing cheeseburger and fries, Del Frisco’s in Plano for a juicy filet mignon, Lawry’s in North Dallas for some choice prime rib, and beer biscuits at Barbec’s off of Garland Road to top it off. Sites to see and places to hang out: Mustangs in Las Colinas is a must, the fountains at the Dallas Bank of America building, the outdoor scenery at the Dallas Arboretum, elevator ride to the top of the “golfball” to see the Dallas lights at night, 6th Floor Museum and the grassy knoll for some history, bar-hoping on lower Greenville, trip over to FW to see the Water Gardens and boot-scootin’ at Billy Bobs in the Stockyards.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our faith, church community, friends and family have given us the greatest encouragement when we started our business, when we had downturns and when we had business difficulties.
