We had the good fortune of connecting with Clevetta Bowman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Clevetta, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is that I never stop thinking ahead. I never choose to just be comfortable at one level if I know I’m not where I can be. I continue to invest in my knowledge through education courses, attending showcases to learn from more experienced stylists in my field and receiving certifications to grow my brand. I also listen to my clients and plan how to offer them a better experience when visiting me. There’s a quote I love that states: “The only way to become a master, is to remain a student.” I continue learning and my creative mind comes up with ideas and I manifest what I want. If I stagnate myself to only what I learned 2 or more years ago, the industry and the world around me will pass by and I will not have evolved to my greatest potential.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the proud owner of The Hairpothecary LLC. A company I started during the pandemic in 2020. I was at a very pivotal point in my career and wanted to expand my knowledge beyond styling at the chair. I assisted my clients in maintaining healthy, beautiful hair but there were some who were experiencing hair loss and needed more answers than I had to offer. I did some research, signed up for classes and became a certified Trichologist. I have a wide variety of services I offer to my clients and am continuing my education to become even more informed on hair loss treatments. I was working at a salon and I knew I wouldn’t be there long term so I set out to open my own suite to start business journey. The process was long when it came to opening my salon suite. The effects of the pandemic slowed the processes of completing the building process due to lack of materials, contract approvals and just the overall impact on family, friends and the people of the world. With so much to consider, at times I questioned if it was all worth it, was I making the right decision? The moments to myself, contemplating and considering each item I needed to check off my to-do list, including working 40 hours a week at a job I was unhappy with and smiling through all my worries, I ultimately knew everything would eventually pay off and I would look back and be proud of how far I had come. My family and friends supporting my and encouraging my success helped me see the light at the end of the tunnel. I knew nothing comes easy and the difficulties during my journey were there to teach me, not hinder me. I practiced patience, sooo much patience, and remained focused in knowing I was making the best decision for my future. The Hairpothecary is a place of relaxation and healing. “Beauty from head to soul”. I do my best to keep my clients aware as a hair care professional so they receive the full benefits of the services I offer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas is amazing! I’d definitely take them around downtown and visit the historic Deep Ellum, Arlington to visit the Rangers and AT&T stadiums. Also, Richardson CityLine to check out some amazing bars and restaurants and I love rodeos so I would suggest they attend in boots and a hat! It’s only right when you come to Texas!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely like to dedicate this shoutout to my clients and my stylist friends. This is an industry that is overlooked and not given its full amount of credit. My clients are faithful and support my dreams and my friends know the hard work we consistently put in to satisfy our clients to continue keeping them beautiful. It is a selfless job to put so much thought and care into making others feel relaxed, confident and special. They are truly my foundation in getting my business started and I appreciate them for backing my success.
