We had the good fortune of connecting with Claire Crowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Claire, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was inspired to create something original and compelling for my own home, and I saw a need for custom fireplace screens in the market. My mission was to create artisan metalwork designs for the home inspired by the enduring expressions of nature and the inherent beauty of metals. I had a goal to create a collection that honors nature’s most exquisite forms: butterflies; insects; and quirky earthly shapes such as a curled leaf or a speckled egg.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a classic metalwork studio specializing in finely crafted objects for home, with an emphasis on the fireplace, especially fire screens. We design with both a modern and timeless sense of creation and strive to use ancient craft techniques in new, fresh ways. Located in the Dallas Design District, we are a women-owned business founded and run exclusively by women.

I was inspired by a bare fireplace over a decade ago and found it surprising how few interesting fireplace accessories existed in the high end home space. With a pencil, a blank sketchpad and an idea, this company was conceived and created, and we are now the leading supplier of artisan made fireplace screens in the country. Purity of materials, quality design and locally built production processes keep us separate from our competitors and ensure we provide a superior artisan-built piece at the end of the cycle.

We design original and intriguing pieces in a wide range of sizes, colors and finishes in our Texas headquarters. Clients are impressed with our short lead times and our custom capabilities. We proudly build collectible American-made pieces for clients seeking creative expression through nature-inspired ironwork.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The perfect day in Dallas would start off with breakfast and a coffee at one of our favorite cafes, Ascension Coffee Of course we’re partial to the location in the Dallas Design District. Browsing through our design centers many showrooms and galleries is a must. Make sure to visit Craighead Green and Blue Print Gallery (you might spy some of our fire screens on display, too!)  To get in the Texas spirit, we’d make a pit stop at Miron Crosby for the chicest boots; Canary on Lovers Lane for the finest clothes; and Grange Hall for the ultimate in jewelry. For dinner, one of our faves is The Charles – dark, brooding, and vibey with great food. To end the night, Atwater Alley always delivers: creative bartenders are standing by to mix something different and refreshing based on your favorite flavors. Enjoy!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My grandmother, who owned and ran a family-run floral shop for over fifty years, taught me an appreciation for plants and an awareness that everything’s connected, that we are all made of the same elements as the stars and the vines and the fire that keeps us warm at night. Do your best for yourself and for others and live well, surrounded by the elemental gifts of nature and appreciate the beauty in each bud, bloom and tender moment we share here on our precious planet while believing in something bigger – something universal and powerful – behind the magic. This is how I strive to live and at the heart of the culture I create in my company.
