Meet Channing Walter | MUA & Hair Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Channing Walter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Channing, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process on starting my business is I didn’t want to work for anyone but myself doing something that I Love. I’ve never liked being told what to do and nagged at by anyone. So when looking in the business world and what I have to do to make a living and keep myself sustained I figured I’d create a business that brings life into not only myself but to others as well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I think back to when it all started, it took a minute for it to finally click for me. I’ve always known that I loved Beauty since I can remember! So that was no doubt but to actually make up my mind to put some real action behind it was about 2 years ago. I was in college and I started out as IceyGirl and then made the decision to take a beat to really think and revamp. Then there became You BeYoutiful.
You BeYoutiful MakeUp is all about loving who you are. Individually, as a person on the inside and out. I am here to enhance the features that you’ve provided me with not alter and make different. I want you to be able to stop, look and say to yourself “Girl…You’re beautiful!”. Because that’s how it makes me feel. When I’m in that zone it really takes my mindset about myself to another level and I want my clients to be able to feel that as well. We need that. It took some hurt, heartache and literal stress to get to this point. So no hahaha, it was not easy, but it was most definitely necessary!
In regards to my professionalism, I have to give that all to how I was raised. I was raised to have manners, respect and confidence in myself and everything I do. So with that, it has just carried on through how I carry myself and how I would want to be treated in certain situations. “Treat others the way you would want to be treated.” So I’ve always had that mindset instilled in me, and when it came to business and the work field, it was just the matter of shifting the your sides of personal and professional. You have to find the right balance. And that “balance” could change if necessary. “Treat others the way you would want to be treated.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s so funny because I “go out on the town” a little bit but it is always to the same spots. I like them but I haven’t expanded as much as I could and would like to. Here in Dallas I know there is boku things to get into like the Illusion Museum, Drive-In Movies, creative not your every day Arcades and things like that (all things that I haven’t done yet! *rolls eyes* haha). Dallas is definitely becoming more and more mainstream so there’s always somebody having a concert somewhere, our State Park is poppin. There are plenty things to do, I just haven’t done them yet.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to show recognition to my One and Only Mother!! This woman has been my biggest cheerleader from the beginning! Even when I was younger and she would do certain things or not allow me to do certain things, looking back now, I now understand that she was only doing those certain things because she understood that I’m the type of person who needs a little more pushing. A little more cheering. She allowed me to move at my own pace but Never allowed me to stay stick or defeated for long. Till this day I have never seen her not support me. I would also like to show recognition to my entire immediate family with emphasis on my brother, Christian and my cousin Kei. When I’m falling off a little bit, my brother is who puts me back in line. Always filling me in better marketing tips and such. And my cousin who is my You BeYoutiful MakeUp Ambassador. She allows me to use her face anytime time and I am thankful for that. I wouldn’t have come as far a I have without them.
