We had the good fortune of connecting with BYMYSELF and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi BYMYSELF, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have been around music my entire life. My dad and uncle actually had their own band when they were teenagers and saw a moderate amount of success, being able to tour the country with their music. While they chose family over the tour life, there was always music on the speakers or a guitar being played as I grew up. Because of this, a deep love of all things music was ingrained in me from a young age. From going to concerts and festivals, to staying up late every Thursday night waiting for the new singles and albums to be released at midnight so I can see what is new, and everything in-between. All the time spent listening made me want to start writing my own songs. I found a beat on YouTube that I liked and recorded what I’d written using a RockBand mic and GarageBand. The setup is a lot better now, but the passion and love for songwriting has only grown stronger. The lines between genres grow blurrier everyday, so being able to listen to a little of everything and draw inspiration from all over the internet has allowed me to get to a point where I think I’ve found something special in my own sound.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began releasing music onto SoundCloud around 2014, just doing silly things for fun. The more I did it though, the more the passion and drive to do better grew. Watching artists such as Juice WRLD (rest in peace) grow into massive acts in a short amount of time with basically bedroom studio set ups inspired me to always be creating. I continued to hone my craft on my own and made connections with artists, producers, and engineers over the internet allowing each new song I released to sound better than the last, but it wasn’t until I met Tayler Beckstead that I really began to take music seriously as a potential career option. “It only takes one” is a phrase I often say, especially when recording and preparing to release songs, because there are songs going viral every single day. It only takes one song to change your life. I draw from a multitude of sounds for the songs I create. Artist such as Post Malone, MGK, ericdoa, brakence, and the late Lil Peep are all important inspirations that became the building blocks for the music I’ve been working on for the last few years. My sound has evolved immensely as I tried to find what sounded like “ME”, but I think I’ve finally found it. Blending ideas from rap, pop-punk, hyperpop, and more, I came up with the phrase “hyperpunk” to describe my sound. Beautiful guitar melodies, hard-hitting punk style drums, and hooks that use heavy bass and distortion drive the instrumentals while my lyrics range from love ballads to heartbreak anthems.
It was definitely not smooth sailing to get where I am, more than one yelling match occurred around studio sessions, but persevering through all that allowed me to get where I am today. Taking all feedback and criticism and using that to better myself and my music.
I have two music videos in the works, as well as a new single dropping towards the end of August! It is the third single for my first tape, titled LOVRBOi, which I am beyond excited to announce just finished the mixing and mastering process and will be released this Fall. It’s been a long time coming and I can’t wait to share it with whoever will listen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Monday: TopGolf and a Mavs or Stars game, depending on the time of the year.

Tuesday: We’d go check out the Dallas World Aquarium. It has a super unique layout that makes looking at all the animals on display even more enjoyable.

Wednesday: Dinner at Moo Dae Po, a tucked away Korean BBQ joint with some of the best ingredients I’ve ever tried

Thursday: Go check out Thursdays on Tap at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Alcohol and a museum go surprisingly well together.

Friday: Go to a concert at Deep Ellum! That’s the best scene for live music, whether you buy tickets beforehand or stumble across a show being played.

Saturday: Go check out Six Flags Over Texas during the day and then head to the Cidercade for drinks and games.

Sunday: Go see a Cowboys game in AT&T stadium! How ’bout them Cowboys!!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I would like to thank my friend and engineer Tayler Beckstead of Mad Studios. He’s one of the first people to really believe in my music and has pushed me for years to improve my craft. Our collaboration and his skills with Logic have raised my music to a level that never would have been possible otherwise. I would like to thank my friend and brother Sean Wesley of SeanWesDesigns whose connections and business acumen have allowed me to do things early in my career that will allow me to be more prepared than I ever would have been able to do on my own.
I would like to thank my family for the love and support I’ve been given over the years, as well as for instilling my love of music in the first place.
I would like to thank the Bros, Beta Chi, and the Lunch Crew because they’re awesome! Friends who have been there from the beginning and have shown me the support that has helped me keep going even when things get tough.
