We had the good fortune of connecting with Burl “Pete” Hampton III and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Burl “Pete”, how do you think about risk?

My thought process for starting my business came after the realization that I can make money by doing what I absolutely love which is telling a story through film and photography.

One thing about my industry that outsiders are unaware of is that you can have the most expensive camera and equipment but if you don’t understand how to use it, you can still produce a bad product.

I look at the word risk and change it to Faith. Everything I DO when it comes to business is driven by faith. I live by the scripture James 2:4 – Faith without works is dead.

Marrying my beautiful wife, Pamela Hampton. She lifts me up through the good and bad days of business. She listens to me rattle off all my crazy ideas with the same excitement and when the adrenaline has worn off, she reels me back in and keeps me and 2902 Media on track.

Other than my faith in God, my work ethic is undeniable. It is the backbone of who I am. One thing about me. I’m going to put the work in. In the words of the great Anita Baker, “I’m giving you the best that I got!”

One of the most difficult decisions I made was quitting my full-time job to pursue my business. There came a point in my life where I could not maintain driving a school bus 45 hours out of the week, as well as editing music videos within the deadline. Sleep deprivation was in full effect.

Unfortunately, I haven’t found the correct formula for work life balance. I am constantly eating, sleeping, breathing 2902 Media. One day I hope to figure it out. I believe my wife, family and friends would appreciate it.

One of my favorite quotes is from Hall of Famer Deion Sanders,

“If you look good, you feel good, and if you feel good, you play good. If you play good, then they pay good.” I was a student athlete growing up, but I keep this same mind set when I am doing business. Also, being kind and providing great customer service helps as well.

I’ve been taking photos since I was 8 years old. If I knew I could make a living capturing people’s memories, I would have pursued it a lot earlier in life. It was all in God’s timing. It was simply something I love to do, I had an eye for it, and I was good at it. Most of all I enjoy being a servant to my clients and watching their expression when I deliver the final product is priceless.

I want my Legacy to reflect Isaiah 42:6 – I, the Lord have made you the vessel of my purpose, I have taken you by the hand, and kept you safe, and I have given you to be an agreement to the people, and a light to the nations.

The definition of a photograph is an image created by light falling on a photosensitive surface. Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” So to describe my art is to say I am the surface that God shines his light on to do good deads for my clients and to give God the Glory. This is also one of the things that set me apart from other entrepreneurs as well. I’m most proud of the continued growth of my business and evolving with the times. Whether its building an actual team or learning AI to help improve my business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend or relative come visit for a week I would definitely have to take them to some of my favorite restaurants, such as: Fixe Southern House
Mama Gina’s Restaurant & Catering
Da Crab Trap
Enchiladas Ole’
Soulz Smoked Food
I would also take them to one of the staples in Fort Worth, The Stockyards. The Kimble Art Museum is one of my favorite places to shoot, so why not let them marvel at the art work. Depending on what weekend they come, Dickies Arena always has some sort of live entertainment for everyone. For some all out fun, I would take them to Top golf since it is 2 miles from my home. I would represent Fort Worth well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my wife who has walked this journey with me from the beginning. She was there when I had no clients, no marketing, no website and I could only shoot on automatic.
