Meet Brittney O’Brien: Newborn and Children’s Portrait Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney O’Brien and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittney, what’s the most important think you’ve done for your children?
I am a stay at home mama to 3 little ones, ages 5, 3 and 6 months. One of the most important things I try to model for my children is to admit when I am wrong and ask for their forgiveness. In doing this, I hope to point them to Jesus and the grace He has for us. I want them to understand humility, grace, and compassion, and to be able to extend those qualities to everyone around them.  

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love to take a journalistic approach to newborn and family photography, with an emphasis on light and laughter. I try to capture pictures that evoke a sense of joy or humor from the viewer, whether that’s by capturing a mundane moment (food spilled and baby crying) or a mom and child laughing together. I hope that my photography gives people “all the feels” along with a sense of humor (and reality lol). For my personal work, I try to take storytelling images that people can relate to…usually displaying the mess that my kids are 😉 I try to keep it real, so that my instagram doesn’t become a standard of “perfect” that is emotionally detached from reality.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh gosh, well, all my friends have kids….so I would probably take them to Playstreet Museum or something  Alright in all honesty I’m a major foodie! I would take them to all my favorite Texas restaurants; Chuy’s, Malai Kitchen, Torchy’s Tacos, and I love local coffee shops! Oh, Kate Weiser Chocolate in Trinity Grove is a MUST. Right before Covid-19 I discovered Legacy Hall in Frisco and I cannot wait to go back!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Awwww I love that this is about recognizing those around us! I have a few creatives in my life who I think are phenomenal. Taylor Morgan with 1031Gallery on Etsy is an amazing custom art and graphic designer. Darby Scebold with Colorfuldarb on instagram is AH-MAZING with her illustrations! (She’s also my sister in law!) Danielle Day with Danielle Day Photo is my favorite photographer in the area. She’s super sweet, fantastic with kids, and her work is beautiful.
