We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Ward and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started contemplating starting my own business as a result of a few different factors. I’ve always liked the idea of entrepreneurship, but wasn’t quite sure which direction I wanted to take. In 2020, I was furloughed from my job due to mandated COVID shutdowns. During my break, I graduated college with a BBA in marketing & management. This gave me inspiration to start exploring other routes for my career to progress. The business idea itself really just fell into my lap when a dear friend of mine had her baby shower cancelled, also due to the mandated COVID shutdowns. She was upset & couldn’t find a new venue, so I decided to surprise her with a baby shower in her own back yard. I ended up styling her a pretty little picnic, & it was a hit! From that event, I received an inquiry for another picnic. I was very blessed that the demand for my picnic styling just kind of snowballed from there, & Luxe Picnics was born! I used my 13 years of experience in the hospitality industry combined with my business knowledge to create a business plan that has helped guide me in the creation & growing of my business. Now, I am able to live my dreams doing something I truly love.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Luxe Picnics apart from other event planning agencies is that I am completely mobile. I offer my clients the ability to host an exciting event just about anywhere. By removing the venue, & thus venue fees, I have made hosting an extravagant celebration more attainable. With that being said, I am constantly looking for ways to add to or improve my services. Currently, I am working on the creation of a To-Go Picnic Experience. Clients will receive an insulated picnic basket with food & drinks for two along with a blanket & flowers. I am very proud of this idea & have high hopes for it’s success.

I have been able to grow my business into what it is today for a few reasons. I have many successful entrepreneurs in my family, so I’ve always had the itch to create my own business as well. This caused me to get my degree in business management & marketing, which has helped a lot with my business plan development & implementation. Nothing has been easy, but tenacity has paid off for me. Many times my endeavors have been unsuccessful or I have fallen short of my goals, but I have come to learn that the best way to overcome challenges is just to keep on keeping on.

This agency is ever growing. I have really enjoyed watching it grow & evolve, & can’t wait to see where it takes me into the future. I truly love what I do & that shows in my work. While I have an idea of how I want to grow the agency, I am always on the lookout for exciting opportunities. If you think I can help you in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I am willing to travel & would love to talk to YOU!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Granbury, so I would definitely start our time here. I would have to treat my guest to a lazy day on the lake before having a replenishing supper at Christina’s American Table on the square. After that, we would walk around the square enjoying the wineries, bars, & live music venues. I would definitely be stopping the Silver Saddle Saloon Ice House. The next day, I would whisk my guest off for a relaxing day at Spa Castle. We would have yet another lazy day enjoying spa treatments & getting pampered before having a nice dinner at Simply Fondue on Sundance Square. There is a really neat jazz club next to the restaurant, but I would opt to take my guest to the Fort Worth Stockyards for a little honky-tonking. ‘Merica.

The rest of the trip would be filled with many other exciting expeditions that showcase my favorite things about Dallas-Fort Worth. I would absolutely have to treat my guest to the bottomless mimosa brunch at Blue Mesa Southwest Grill at some point. Of course we would have to do some shopping at the Galleria & enjoy some delicious sushi at Uchi while we are over that way. Touring our vast variety of breweries would also be desirable, but if I had to pick one I’d take my guest to the Revolver Brewery, because…Granbury. My favorite music venue is the Dos Equis Pavilion, so I would love to take my guests there if there was an interesting act performing.

It’s really hard to shine a spotlight on just a few things about the metroplex, because it has such a plethora of activities & experiences. We could spend a day at The Shops at Clearfork both shopping & dining, or we could catch a Cowboys or Rangers game. We could enjoy meals from any of the amazing tex-mex or BBQ joints local to the area. The Arlington Highlands is also a really neat place to spend time at. The options are really endless.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother has, hands down, been the most influential person in my life. I grew up admiring her wealth of knowledge, ambitious attitude, & ever nurturing demeanor. She worked hard to make sure my siblings & I were provided for, & was the best role model I could’ve ever asked for. Like her, I was ambitious enough to graduate college pregnant. Like her, I have provided for my family without needing the help of a man. & like her, I have now opened my own business. My life hasn’t been without it’s hurdles, but my mom has never wavered in her steadfast support of me. I have fallen, but she is always there to pick me up. She is my biggest supporter, my greatest inspiration, my strongest safety net & my wisest mentor. Her love & encouragement have been my backbone when I wasn’t sure what direction to take my life. For that reason, I would like to dedicate my shout out to her. Thank you, momma, for being a true angel on earth for everyone around you. I only hope I will be half the woman you are one day. I love you.
