We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Gilles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was a total leap of faith and I was scared. However I had to think what if, what if this changes mine and my daughters entire life. I can do the same thing and it will be fine but nothing amazing. If I take this leap I could fail but what if it works!

What should our readers know about your business?
When I started my first store I had a background in banking and business so I understood the concept of a brick and mortar location however the theory and the actual implementation are two completely different things. One of my biggest struggles was learning how to control my emotions and not take everything so personal when something goes wrong with the business you will never do everything perfect if you are then you haven’t stretched yourself enough so you have to be OK with failures learn from them and MoveOn. that was one of my biggest battles in the beginning. Next would be learning to deal with people, being able to communicate in a calm manner . Learning how to deal with customers in a positive light and employees as well being able to direct my expectations better. I don’t know if I’m set far apart from other people but I do know what helped me survive when others haven’t is just grit the willingness to keep going. You have to be willing to go no matter what. I have to draw that line in the sand and just refuse to quit and that’s basically what it boils down to sticking it out when others give up. To keep doing the long hours that sleepless nights whatever it takes this definitely was not easy and it’s not for the weak but it is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.

being able to build this business with my daughter was one of the biggest blessings in the world while being a single mom I was able to work full-time and not put my daughter in daycare. She was by my side day after day. She learned so much from my business as well as I got to be there for more of those moments. It was and still is absolutely amazing!!!

There are so many struggles and obstacles that will come your way. Just knowing what you want and willing to keep going when it’s hard.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly I’m pretty simple I don’t like the crazy scene anymore. However I’m sure I would take them to 7th street and Montgomery plaza to see all the cool areas to go. Plus the stockyards. It’s Fort Worth. They have to see those things.
Of course some girl shopping time in probably the alliance and maybe tangle outlet mall.

However one of my fav places is eagles point by my house. It’s a locally owned small bar and grill but the food is beyond amazing and I love the vibe and to support local.

However when friends come down it’s more about family time and kids playing! I love hearing them laughing and playing their hearts out! That is my favorite!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are too many to count. So many people have impacted me along the way. Dawn for being my first ride or die, helping me raise my daughter, and fight for my dreams along side me.

Alina for always having my back and jumping on board as well. Making sure my home shop was always well taken care of.

Personal development always!
How to win friends and influence others as well as the compound effect. Those were two big jumping off points for me.
