We had the good fortune of connecting with Brisa Renteria and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brisa, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Mexico City and came to the United States when I was 12 years old. I’ve spent more than half of my life in the US, but I hold my Mexican roots closely. I’ve seen homelessness, child poverty, crime, machismo, and most of all, lack of opportunities. Seeing all of those things, even at a young age, made a huge impact on me and what I wanted to do with my life for my family and my community.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Improve Growth, we help companies find the right sales talent…the first time around. We do that in two ways: We can train sales leadership and recruiting teams on the recruiting process to predict whether or not a candidate will succeed. Or for companies who don’t have the time, resources, or bandwidth to go through the recruiting process, we can do the recruiting for them.
What sets us apart is that we disqualify candidates a whole lot more than we qualify them. That means we start out with a ton of candidates and throughout the process there’s a series of steps and questions we take them through to predict whether or not they’ll be successful. It can get pretty intense, but it works every time! Our clients like the process so much that they’ve asked us to help them find people for other roles outside of sales.
It’s been a crazy ride, a lot of ups and downs, a lot of late nights and early mornings, a lot of worrying and stressing, and hoping for the future…but I absolutely love it! I’ve learned that things have a weird way of working themselves out and that when you’re out there planting seeds, they’ll grow, you just gotta give it time!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I’m a bit of a homebody, but I do like tacos. So I would probably go brunch it up at the Maple Leaf Diner, then walk those calories off at Target, Hobby Lobby, and Kohls, finishing the day off with a trip to Trompo, a delicious taqueria!
Yes, y’all. This is as exciting as my life gets!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom! She’s the strongest warrior I know, and I’m lucky to have her as my mom. I would not be here without her (literally, lol!). She left her country, her family, language, and everything she worked so hard for to give me and my sister a better life. Now that I’m a mom I understand this sacrifice so much more, and I could never thank her enough.
That’s one of my biggest drivers for success. We didn’t come here to be average, we came here to better our lives and the lives of our future generations. Thanks ma!
