We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridgette Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bridgette, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a frequent customer of beauty supply stores, I was often overwhelmed and dissatisfied with the products and service I received. More importantly, the staff nor the owners of the stores I visited looked like me.

G.L.A.M. (Girls Love Amazing Melanin) is my response to the need I felt. G.L.A.M. Beauty Supply is an online beauty supply company that services women that look like me with high quality products, provided by women that care about women of color.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was in retail management for 12 plus years. Learning the background process and what it really takes to run a successful business help me with starting my own. Walking into beauty supply stores and having the owners really not understand what we needed and desired made me push harder to start my business and provided women of my color the product that we needed. The road of starting your own business is never easy but staying determined and focus and knowing the once the world learns of your brand. That woman of my color would enjoy my brand and product.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m vegan so I would take them to a few of my favorite vegan restaurants.. one of my favorite is Mariachi’s Dine-In the have the best Vegan burgers. Visit an art museum. I love different art. Would visit down in the Colony. The puttery is a nice place you can enjoy mini-golf and have some adult beverages. Just visit a couple places you can go and just sit on the patio and enjoy the weather

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My niece Azharia Taylor & my sister LaTanya Kelsey. When I came up with the thought to start my online business. My niece pushed me and encouraged me to proceed. Help me organize the website My sister was the background voice to help me with the finances. Making sure everything was done correctly.
