We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Shumway and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a creative career because I’m a control freak and couldn’t stand having a boss.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started out shooting gritty black and white photography on a Nikon F3HP. It was all art for me at the beginning but then I realized I had turn make a professional shift if I was to be successful. So I used my artistic background to move into commercial and editorial portraiture and lifestyle photography.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take them back to Brooklyn, where I recently moved from. We’d go to check out the galleries in Chelsea, then cruise over to Central Park with it’s amazing views of midtown skyscraper after which we’d try to see every last Roman statue at the Met Museum, then end the evening at a dive bar in Bed-Stuy.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The first people who liked and supported my work were my family so big shout out to the fam!
