We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian D. Agnew and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian D., can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting Sphinx Minerva Group was to provide support to those who needed it most. Our initial focus was on serving non-profits, social service organizations, entrepreneurs, minority and women-owned businesses. In many cases, these businesses have less capital for reinvestment, shoestring operational budgets and need assistance navigating complex industries.

Our firm provides support in the form of strategic planning, business development, fundraising management and has an Executive Coaching service that supports the next iteration of diverse leaders.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sphinx Minerva Group, LLC is a full-service management consultant firm built on the vision that our dynamic and diverse team of experts will move leaders and their organizations from surviving to thriving in this ever-changing global market.

Our nationally-recognized minority business enterprise (MBE) and small business enterprise (SBE) was established in response to the growing needs of organizational leaders to have well-regarded, focused, highly-specialized support in areas such as equity, diversity and inclusion strategies, public advocacy, fundraising, strategic planning, and crisis management. Since inception, our consultants have undertaken projects nationally ranging from small, non-profits to large, multi-billion dollar enterprises.

Quite frankly, NO, it was not easy to get to where we are today. The idea that I had something to offer as a consultant and executive coach was the farthest thing from my mind until a close friend and mentor made a strong case for the market opportunity. Traditionally underrepresented groups such as African-Americans, Women and LatinX executives rarely find professional services that mirror their life and career experiences. So when an advisor/coach is found, the advice is broad and general…lacking the nuances cultural differences. This is where we found our niche. Pairing the newest rising stars with comprehensive consulting services to ensure their organizations and their leadership was successful.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my Shoutout to everyone who has struggled to achieve their true potential, to every solopreneur/entrepreneur/non-profit leader/diverse executive that wakes up every morning committed to persevering through life’s trials and tribulations.

One of the most impactful quotes that I share with each of my clients, written by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. reads, “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.

So my shoutout is to those who give unselfishly of themselves in service to others, the dreamers who take the risk to start their business, and to those who overcome the greatest of odds to be their authentic selves every day.
