We had the good fortune of connecting with Barb and Jonray Higginbotham Higginbotham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barb and Jonray Higginbotham, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When we first started Kingdom Sound, our live sound company, it began as an Aha! opportunity to be able to serve the Austin community and make additional income with sound equipment we already had for our band. Jonray had worked in the restaurant industry prior while I had worked in the hospitality industry. We had both been exposed to the events industry in some way or another and had audio and performing experience that helped us adapt to the live sound industry. We learned along the way and started with a small pa package. After several gigs, it dawned on us that we could use our trade talents to grow our business, so we began recording friends and anyone who would allows us to stick a mic in front of them with our existing equipment and came up with a business plan to expand our business as well as continued education to further our skills. We liquidated everything we could and with some family support we were able to re invest into our studio and add an extension called Moon Lab Studios. We added services including on site live recording, podcast services and the ultimate synthesizer studio located in Texas. We wanted to share our love for creation and use our talents to help others dream projects come to life by offering a unique space to create and provide boutique services all around while at the same time keeping our Moonray husband and wife synth pop music duo project alive and helpings us grow. It all slowly came together and continues to grow.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It has taken usLet’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of the most interesting spots on a week long itinerary throughout Austin include :Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of we’d like to shout out to our family who are truly supportive of us following our dreams. To our community for believing in our ability to provide services they needed for various events as well as the audio industry for being a support system and a truly amazing network to be a part of. To the Texas Dancehall Tapes for giving us the opportunity to win a Telly Award and record amazing Texas legends in historical dance halls. We’d also like to thank Switched On and Syntaur for helping us piece together our synthesizer selection for Moon Lab Studios and keeping them running. We are also thankful for Jan Triplett at The Business Success Center and the City of Austin for helping us grow in the business development arena and mentorship. Lastly but not least, our amazing clients who trust us and allows us to be part of their dreams.
