We had the good fortune of connecting with Bailey Plake and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bailey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I never thought of myself as a business woman. I have always loved making baked goods for my friends and family. In 2017 I began having major stomach issues which led to a new paleo diet. This launched me into learning much more about the food we consume, getting creative with flavors and ingredients, and seeing God heal through food. Now, most days after work or anytime on the weekend, you can find me in my kitchen. In 2020 my husband and I moved into a cottage owned by our dear friends that sits directly behind their house. As you can guess, we affectionately call it “The Back House.” After some time of baking for friends, neighbors, and colleagues, teaching baking classes and catering events, we decided to take a leap of faith and launch The Back House Bakery with a mission to share the connection I have found in food with others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I find it amazing that God created food not only for our fuel, but also for our enjoyment. I have always loved spending time in the kitchen, but my favorite has always been baking. In middle school I would spend my mornings watching Sarah Molten on the Food Network or baking brownies with my grandma. I’ve made wedding cakes, catered desserts for parties, but most importantly gathered dear friends around my own table. I think that hospitality is one of the best gifts we can offer each other; if I can help you do that by providing some baked goods, I think we are up to something good!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Food: HG Supply, Gemelle, Meyer and Sage, Malai Kitchen Fun things to do: I love going to the famers market and we have so many great ones in the metroplex! Maybe go shopping at Winton & Waits or get our nails done at Restore & Revive.
Coffee: I like to take a walk down my street and hangout on the patio at Roy Pope

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be anywhere without the support of my husband, Anthon Plake. He is my number one taste tester, takes all of my photos, comes with me to events, does deliveries…he is the best supporter and cheerleader!!
