We had the good fortune of connecting with Athena Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Athena, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The most important decision is to allow myself to be me. Not what I think others want me to be. I’m very guarded and don’t like to show who I really am. Since I started just doing what I like or love I found it’s ok to just be me. As far as success I’m still working on that. Every event and creation is more step closer to success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work clay. Specifically air dry and most recently cosclay. Making magical trees and now creatures/dolls is so much fun!! I love seeing how each tree has its own energy (even without the crystals) and how each creature’s/doll has personality. When I creating I work heavily on “what feels right”. The process is the same but energy is always different. I don’t create when I have had a bad day or not feeling good. I truly believe that if I did the creation would absorb negative energy. That is something I don’t want to pass on to others.
Easy…… nothing is easy. I think the question should be has it been worth it. AND YES, YES IT HAS!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well this is a tough one since I didn’t grow up here. Favorite local restaurant I would say is From Across the Pond. I have celiac and I can always count on them to give a great and safe meal. If it was fall I would definitely have them plan to visit during the arts goggle on magnolia in Fort Worth. I look forward to this every year!!!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wish I could shoutout all the people in my circle. My husband (Josh Miller) is very supportive and reminds me that my art is worth growing and continuing. Second person Jessica Cazobon. She is a local artist and for her to love my art is such an honor! She does what’s makes her happy and I can count on her for hard truths!!!
