We had the good fortune of connecting with Astra Spanbauer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Astra, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from a small town in Oklahoma. I grew up going to church on Sundays and going the farm with my grandfather after school. I watched my parents and grandparents work so hard for everything they had. I remember going out to the garage to see what my grandfather was working on…watching him fix fence at the farm or anything that broke at home. He never called a repairman, he just fixed it. As an adult, I can definitely see how much I was influenced by that. I believe I can fix or build just about anything and I’m never afraid to try. That has led to a very successful social media platform that allows me to DIY to my hearts content and take people from all walks of life right along with me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I wear a lot of hats in my professional career. I am a single mother of two and lover of DIY and interior design. I’m an Operations Manager, multi-state REALTOR® and DIY queen by day. I also run a successful DIY blog, www.athomewithAstra.com and a couple successful social media sites: IG and TikTok @athomewithastra. I’m busy if you hadn’t guessed, but not too busy to create a home filled with love. I love sharing my home and projects with the world. I also love that I get to teach people how to create in their own homes. I think the hardest part for people is just getting over the fear and jumping in. That’s what I get to do and share daily. I share the successes and the failures because at the end of the day, the reality of it all is really what sets my platform apart. It’s easy to pretend everything is perfect but being vulnerable and sharing reality is a lot harder.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Surprisingly enough, I’m more of a home body. I like to spend quality time with my people right here. I would cook for them, spend time talking and connecting etc.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to the village that raised me! My parents, grandparents, sister, aunts, uncles and cousins helped shape the person I am today. My shoutout also goes to my beautiful children. They are the fuel behind my drive and passion in life.
