We had the good fortune of connecting with Arwen (Moczygemba) O’Connell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arwen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was an accident! I always say it was a God thing, and not a me thing. I posted a cake I made for fun, and I had a former classmate order for her son’s birthday. Eventually I switched over to cookies, and I’ve fallen in love! The driving force now is to eventually build my business to where it’s the only job I have to hold so I can stay home with any future children.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a cookie artist is definitely not for the faint of heart! It takes lots of dedication, time, and patience to achieve the detailed look of a complete product. I am self-taught through youtube and Instagram videos. I think something that sets me apart is that I do not (and will not) use a projector for my cookies. If I have an order for a logo, I will purchase a custom stencil. But everything not involving a stencil is entirely freehand, and I have no intention of changing that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m in San Antonio, so taking them to the Riverwalk is non-negotiable. For food, we would definitely go to Southerleigh Haute South at the Rim, and have some raw oysters, the fried seafood platter, and a honey fried biscuit. For drinks, we would pay a visit to The Lion and the Rose, my favorite pub location. Other than that, I’m honestly a home-body, so much of the time would be spent just hanging out!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everything is what it is thanks to the big man upstairs. God has blessed me with this business, and it’s so incredible to watch Him at work as it continues to grow! My husband is also always supportive, and I’m grateful to have him on my team
