We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Ramoz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, what do you attribute your success to?
I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m too successful just yet in my comedy ventures, but the most important factor in improving has got to be my peers in the Dallas comedy community. We all try to help each other and we all want to see each other succeed. Sure, you’ll run into a couple of negative people in the scene but they are usually pushed out really quick. I’ve never been a part of a community like the Dallas comedy scene and I can honestly say it feels like I have a second family in them. I strive to make my peers proud and to help them as well. That’s all I really want at the end of the day, to succeed with everyone.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I wouldn’t say I’m better than anyone, and I’m definitely not more successful that a lot of people. What sets me apart might be my ambition to help grow the comedy scene in Dallas however I can. There is so much potential in this city that I love and I can see it being a big thing one day.
No part of the journey is easy, but being surrounded by a supportive community and great friends in the scene has made me want to continue to grow and help put on shows and open more open mics around the city. The world needs to know more about Deep Ellum than just the negative side of things. The world should know that Deep Ellum and Dallas as a whole has the potential to be a huge creative hub for all walks of artists.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Man, I’ve had a lot of friends visit Dallas and I always take them to Deep Ellum during the day to get a feel of the scene here. Bishop arts is a great night time hang/bar hopping area as well as Greenville Ave. Food wise, you can never go wrong with Terry Blacks and Armoury. Dallas has so many restaurants around so you can always find something.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to shout out and give credit to who I consider a mentor in this game, Noah Shark Robertson. He got me on my first open mic and show and has propelled me into where I am now and I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for him.
Also a HUGE shout out to Steve and Amber from Reno’s Chop Shop in Deep Ellum for allowing me to put on whatever shows I want at their venue. It’s always a killer time and it’s easy to make a great show when the owners of the venue trust you to do the best you can do.
