We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Lippens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Statistics show that each year approximately 23,000 youth “age out” of the foster care system in the United States. 20% of those youth will automatically become homeless on their 18th birthday and half will develop a substance dependence. Statistics also indicate 70% of girls who age out get pregnant before the age of 21, less than 3% go on to earn a college degree and they’re 80% more likely to be sex trafficked.

Unfaulted exists to build a foundation for young women, ages 18-25, who have “aged out” of the foster care system. We connect them with resources to attain employment, transportation, housing, education, and relational support. Unfaulted also connects these young women with a forever family, food, counseling and other needed resources. We want to provide hope and tools to equip these young women be successful, independent adults.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Just because a person legally become an adult doesn’t mean they have it all figured out or that they won’t need help. In fact, that’s often the time where they need support most as they find their own independence. That’s why we take a more holistic approach in the support we give.

For example, some of our girls have wanted us to help them get their driver’s license. But, they could not immediately get a driver’s license because they didn’t have the required legal documents, a long term mailing address or the money to get it. In some cases they also needed to attend a driver’s education course. Unfaulted team members assist our girls by showing them how to apply for required their documents (such as birth certificate or Social Security card), find housing and get them enrolled in a driver’s education course. We also teach them basic vehicle maintenance and safety in our life skills class.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Each month Unfaulted has a “Fun Day” for our girls. We’ve loved skating at an 80s themed roller skating party, attending the Water Lantern Festival in Fort Worth and having self-care days.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our heroes are the women we serve. Each woman has a unique story and they’ve exhibited incredible bravery and strength by not allowing abandonment or trauma to stop them. They are a large part of our why.
