We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Switzer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Integrity. It means being honest, transparent, and reliable in all dealings. When integrity is the cornerstone of your business, it builds trust with customers, partners, and employees. It’s not just a value; it’s a promise to always do what’s right, even if it’s tough. This commitment to integrity creates a solid reputation and a foundation for long-term success.

What should our readers know about your business?
My career journey has been an evolution, marked by my relentless pursuit of creative fulfillment and entrepreneurial spirit. Starting with a BFA in Textile Design from the University of Kansas, I then moved to NYC and had a long lasting career in the home textile industry.

My early years designing window curtains for a manufacturer set the stage for a decade-long exploration in various facets of soft home product design. Working with different manufacturers, creating bedding and other soft home items for national retailers, I honed the skills while understanding diverse market needs and preferences.

The pivotal shift occurred when I ventured into my own factory direct manufacturing and established a prestigious showroom on 5th Avenue. This venture, though successful, ended as my vision diverged from my investors’. This experience, while challenging, demonstrated my resilience and determination to remain true to my creative and business drive.

Transitioning to Dallas, my tenure at a NYC-based bedding manufacturer spanned nine years. However, I felt my creative potential was underutilized, which prompted a bold decision to pursue my passion for interior design—a field that resonated deeply with me since childhood.

Launching my interior design business in 2022 was a leap of faith, driven by the desire for autonomy and the freedom to harness my creative talents without constraints. The overwhelming support and success have garnered are a testament to my skill, dedication, and the trust clients have in my vision.

My focus on serving residential clients across the DFW area with full-service interior design reflects not only my expertise but also my commitment to providing personalized, high-quality experiences. My journey embodies resilience, adaptability, and a relentless pursuit of creative excellence, showcasing my entrepreneurial skills and unwavering dedication to my craft. This is just the beginning of my story….

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My go to spot for lunch or dinner is Hudson House, it’s always consistent and a staple among my girlfriends to celebrate each other’s birthdays there. If I were going for drinks I would go to Catbird in the Thompson Hotel. The ambiance is a great vibe, has a great outdoor patio and right when you get off the elevators there is an oversized photograph of Wolf of Wall Street which is one of my favorite movies. As an interior designer a big part of my job is sourcing the right items for my clients, aka professional shopper so I have quite a few areas I love going and exploring for myself. I love highland park village, their high end shops are great for inspiration, beautiful ambiance and Bird Bakery is perfect for taking a little shopping break to have a cupcake. I am all about the hunt and I love any type of market. I like going to all the pop up markets throughout town and Dallas Farmer’s market has various seasonal markets. Supporting small local artists and the community is important to me as I am a small business owner as well. Flea Style’s foundation was built on supporting small businesses and has grown tremendously but still stays true to their foundation of supporting small and they have outdoor markets to support local artists. Cottonwood Art Festival is a great art show and so is The Other Art Fair in Dallas, it represents small artists that may not be able to get their work out there other than these types of shows.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I know cliche but my parents are incredible role models, setting the stage for my success by instilling the value of hard work. They’ve given me an incredible gift—the understanding that hard work is the key to achieving anything you set your mind to. This foundational belief has empowered me to face challenges with determination, knowing that with effort and perseverance, you can overcome any obstacle.

Starting a career in NYC, especially in a creative field, is no small feat. I took on this challenge with determination, fueled by the constant support and encouragement from my family that I can achieve anything.

The vibrant, competitive landscape of New York City can be both exhilarating and daunting. Having that unwavering support from my family, believing in my capabilities, provided the necessary boost during uncertain times.

Their encouragement might have been the driving force on days when the path seemed tough, reminding me of my potential and reinforcing the idea that no dream is too big. This kind of support serves as a backbone, sustaining the motivation to push boundaries and explore my creative talents to their fullest extent.
