We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Pratt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I worked as a dog trainer for many years before joining a Service Dog program as one of their trainers. As a disabled handler myself, who succeeded with the help of my dog Scout, I truly wanted to help people find their way with a service dog. I quickly came to realize the service dog organization I worked for wasn’t the most reputable program out there, and left. I had a few choices, but ultimately I came to find that I wanted to just run my own organization and make sure the clients and dogs received the best training we could provide. In 2015 my doors officially opened and I started helping clients.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I was never in this to become a business’ owner. Many mistakes have been made along the way, so if you are getting into this the first set of advice I would give is to get an amazing accountant. Cause the books are confusing if you have no clue where to begin!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I have friends and clients coming to town we ALWAYS go to the Fort Worth Stockyards. It is an amazing place to train our pups, but also the atmosphere is just energetic. After that we will find a local Mexican food restaurant and enjoy a great evening.

If we have a day where we want to play with either head to Six Flags or the Perot Museum. Depending on the heat of the day and how we are feeling.

And lastly, we will go to a restaurant in downtown McKinney. That area is so quaint, always has something going on, with amazing food to choose from.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be here today without the help from Karina Whittington and Veronique Clarke. Their never ending support means everything!
