Meet Amanda Kee

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Kee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I think it was just natural for me. I was an “art kid” in school growing up and always told myself that’s where I wanted to be when I grew up. I never wanted to work in a world where I had to worry about censoring myself Monday-Friday.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s easy to get discouraged about your own work when we live in today’s world of social media. You’re constantly feeling like you have to compare yourself to others more often than before in all aspects. People’s egos get disgusting and inflated for that same reason as well. Everything I have ever done creatively I have always ended up kind of falling in to it over time. I think that’s the best way, to just enjoy life and things will fall in to place as they should over time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Depends on the friend and their vibe!
But, if they were anything like me I would definitely take them to Panoptikon and The Church Dallas (my two favorite gothic night clubs in Dallas). The strip on Cedar Springs has a great mix of bars and clubs for chill day drinking or night time bar hopping. If they want an over the top dinner experience, I am taking them to Nick and Sam’s, Town Hearth, Monarch or Nobu (why not all of the above tbh). Brunch at Mercat is also a vibe when you get a rare good weather day! Or a trip to the H-mart area in Carrollton for all the great Asian restaurants there of we are feeling more casual!
If the fair is going they have to experience that as well. That and the Stockyards are the most stereotypical “Texas” things to do here in my opinion.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents for their unconditional love and support through every step of my life. I didn’t realize when I was growing up that not every one had a perfect Disney channel family. As I got older I realized how very lucky I was to have that. Whatever my passion was, they were there to back me up and encourage me all the way. I was never stuffed in to a box or told I had to be a certain thing. They were always on my side.
