We had the good fortune of connecting with Alonia Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alonia, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’m so excited to finally share this news with my all my friends, family, and my online supporters who have been following my journey on social media.. 3 years ago on December 19th my grandmother (Lorean Dew) made her arrival to heaven. That was a moment that changed not only my life but my mindset on a lot of things. About a year after my grandmother passed I was in my bedroom thinking of something I can do or create that will make me feel like she’s still here and I wanted to put together something that I knew she and I both bonded so well on, and that was fashion! But to be specific it was jewelry. One thing my grandmother always made sure she had on was her favorite pair of small gold hoops, a dainty necklace, and her petite watch. My grandmother was a very classy and sophisticated woman. She had this big beautiful wooded jewelry stand in her room that was FULL of all kinds of jewelry real gold, a few diamonds, and some contemporary accessories. After school I would always come home go in her room and play dress up. It was so funny because there were even some days she would sneak and let me wear some of her jewelry to school and my mom would get so mad because she was afraid I would loose it (I never did) lol. Being my grandmothers first granddaughter I was passed down a lot of jewelry and her small gold hoops that she wore every single day until her passing, what an honor! That is the story behind my up and coming jewelry line ‘Dew Jewelry’ this is something that I know she would be proud of. My grandmother knew how much I love fashion so I feel like this is a connection between her and I.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Over the years, I’ve learned that I’m a creative person in so many ways. Whether it be sharing my lifestyle and outfits, I simply love creating content to show to my online friends! I have an eye for detail in every single thing I do. Which is why I’m so excited for the launch of my jewelry brand because I’ll be able to express not only my love and appreciation for fashion but within another avenue in accessories as well. I understand that when you venture into entrepreneurship and basically working as your own boss, nothing ever comes easy. However, I think what makes it more rewarding is simply having a genuine love for what you’re doing and the journey you’re getting ready to embark on. When you are passionate about something and love it before the thought of making money and business are involved, that’s what will make what seems “so hard” easy. Although so much in fashion is saturated these days, what will set me apart is my uniqueness, attention to detail and the meaning behind my brand. I want the world to know that there is so much genuine love behind this.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have recently moved to the downtown Dallas area and I must say this city has so much to offer and a lot to do, it’ gets a little overwhelming lol! I think the first thing I would do is take her to my fav coffee shop which is “Weekend Coffee” located inside the joule hotel. For lunch I would then have us stop by sassesta – they have some of the best pizza and really good salads.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to Misty Dew my mother! Simply because if it was not for her constantly telling me to “get started” or “Don’t forget about your vision” I wouldn’t have done this interview announcing my soon to come Jewelry line. My mom is my biggest cheerleader in life. And sure I have others that I could shoutout but in this moment she deserves the biggest shoutout. She was the first person I came to when I came up with the idea of wanting to start this business. I couldn’t thank her enough!
