We had the good fortune of connecting with Allie G. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allie, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want my legacy to encompass the joy and upliftment that I brought to others. I want people to remember that even in times of doubt and sadness, I chose perseverance and light and that they can too! I chose to be a person who empowers and helps people better their health and wellness, who fosters communities where strangers become family and where they leave my presence happier and lighter than they came. I hope that my legacy will spiral into more people spreading more positivity, community and wellness to others.

What should our readers know about your business?
FETENESS® is a mood-boosting and unique West Indian-centered fitness company. Our one-of-a-kind class formats allow you to burn calories while forgetting that you’re working out – it is that much fun! You never know what may happen in FETENESS with our unparalleled blend of fun, fitness and fete! A fete is a celebration! We created our fitness classes to be a celebration of culture, health and wellness in a judgement-free environment! I’m excited to elevate others with each class!

I’m most proud of my ability to take leaps and push doubt aside to reach where I am today business-wise. It was not easy! It’s vital to have faith in God and to believe in yourself and the gift(s) that God instilled in you. With purpose, an action plan and prayer, you can overcome all challenges! In my journey, I’ve learned that issues will arise, but I am a strong believer that all things happen for a reason and on God’s timing. I approach issues with the following reflections: “Why did this happen? How could this have been avoided? What did I learn from this?” This strategy is key to conquering challenges.

I’m a proud first-generation Haitian American who loves to dance and “Sweat My Culture™”! I’m extremely passionate about overall wellness, servicing my community and encouraging others. Feteness was created to fill a void and to provide a safe space to authentically display my culture while participating in an enjoyable fitness experience. It’s where West Indians feel at home and where people of all cultures can learn and enjoy our vast culture, music and movements. “Feteness is where strangers become famalay!” Join us!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Monday, we’re hitting Nautical Mile in Freeport! This strip is growingly ethnic, filled with West Indian and Spanish cuisine, music, tropical designed bars and marina! After eating and dancing our way down the mile, we’d relax in the marina and enjoy the scenery.

Tuesday, we turn up and “Sweat Yuh Culture™” in FETENESS®! We’re dancing the calories away as we’re mentally transported to the Caribbean in our exhilarating fitness experience. My best friend would not miss the “funnest fitness fete” while in town!

Wednesday, we’re heading to Flushing Meadows Corona Park for a nice stroll and picnic before discussing our art interpretations in Queens Museum’s various exhibits!

Thursday is for Therapy Thursday’s at Allure Art Studio in Queens! We’d enjoy a glow-in-the-dark paint experience at this black woman owned art gallery and studio in the heart of Hollis, Queens! BYOB, good vibes and curated playlists add to this therapeutic paint night experience. It is the perfect way to ease us into the weekend!

Friday, we’re headed to the hottest rooftop in Queens, Lost In Paradise Rooftop! This rooftop bar and lounge has the best view of NYC! Indulging in delicious cocktails and scrumptious food while live DJs set the vibe would be the only way to spend our Friday night!

Saturday, we’re heading to Manhattan and enjoying a matinee Broadway play! “The Lion King”, “MJ”, “Once Upon A One More Time”, the options are endless! After a Broadway play, we’d go for some retail therapy!

Sunday, we reset, recharge and relax with yoga practice at black woman owned & operated, I am Yogi Studios, in Queens!

To me, this is the perfect blend of culture, self-care and enjoying what small businesses in New York City have to offer!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to my Mother! I launched my business on the 20th anniversary of her passing in commemoration of her honor and legacy. Although I was only 9 years old when she passed from breast cancer, she instilled an abundance of love, light, strength and independence in me. My mother was a kind-hearted and fun mom! She was a safe space for others to bear all and that is what I choose to incorporate into my business in honor of her.

Shoutout to the whole G “fanmi” (family) for encouraging the baby of the crew to shine bright! Last but certainly not least, shoutout to the “Feteness Famalay” for your support and rocking with me! I am so grateful for the community and family that keeps me motivated to bring out the best in myself and others through FETENESS®.
