We had the good fortune of connecting with Alice Laura Sedlicka and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alice Laura, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I believe work life balance to be extremely important. You can only be creative and productive if you feel well, have energy and a rested mind and body. I try to work out at least 5 times a week. I love doing yoga, walking, and working out in the gym. One of my passions is dancing. I enjoy doing it a lot. It helps me to forget about everything and just live the moment, feel the music and let myself go. I also try to travel often to the beach, since I believe that water has an unbelievably calming effect on us and it helps me balance out my energy, focus on what I want and reset before I get back to work. Traveling in general is another great work life balance tool for me. It helps me get out of my comfort zone and look at life and my business from a different perspective. I believe that our health should always be our number one priority since without a good health, mentally and physically, you are not able to do anything in life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our company, Alice Laura Models, specializes in placing high fashion models skilled in sales, brand promoting and hosting for upscale events, trade shows and fashion events. We are known for the class, elegance and intellect of our models. We have found our niche focusing on class and competence, rather than short dresses. A high degree of education, knowledge of foreign languages and a very attractive look, are only a few qualifications that are required of our talent. We want our models to be valuable team members for the company, who help translate, filter important clients, direct customers to the right contact person and make any event, product launch or marketing campaign a success.
Our mission is to break down the prejudice of models being beautiful, but empty shells because our models represent much more than that. We would like them to be appreciated and valued for what they bring to the table. Generally, we want to empower our talent for their future lives. We love being the force that drives them to work on themselves intellectually, to learn new languages or get to know more about an industry they may be interested in. But most importantly, we want to encourage them to do what they are passionate about.
Our vision is to work with companies that, besides from turning a profit, also focus on having a positive impact: Ethical Fashion, Fair Trade, Innovative Technologies, Organic & all Natural Cosmetics/Food. Since we only have one planet we would like to use the tools of beauty and intelligence wisely, supporting a good cause.
I am originally from Germany and it has been a challenge for me to grow my business in the US. It was a completely foreign terrain for me and I came across a lot of cultural differences and personal challenges. Before, I had studied and worked in different countries, but I had never before launched my own business in a foreign country. It has not been easy for sure, but I am proud to say that I have been able to make valuable connections and partnerships. Now, I have a better understanding about US business life and culture.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If I had my best friend visiting the DFW area I would definitely take her to Uptown and West Village. I really enjoy walking around and visiting the boutique stores and great restaurants in the area. I also love taking a walk or going for a bike ride at Katy Trail. Another favorite spot of mine is the White Rock Lake. It is very close to the city center but allows you to relax, calm down and take a rest in nature while watching the gorgeous Texas sunsets. Afterwards, I might bring her to one of the hotel rooftops in Downtown Dallas. We would have a nice drink and enjoy the view of the Dallas skyline.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe I would not be the person I am today if it was not for my parents. They always encouraged me to focus on my education and on my personal growth, traveled with me and opened my eyes for the world and different cultures. They wanted me to be happy more than anything else in life and taught me the values that now are guiding me in growing an ethical business. Thanks to them I stay humble and treat everyone with respect. I learned how to be a leader, who leads by example, works hard and does not only give commands. No entrepreneur is able to do everything by himself and I am thankful for my team, for the incredible models and hostesses who work with us and especially for my business partner who taught me a lot about the entrepreneurial mindset and leadership.
