We had the good fortune of connecting with Aleshia Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aleshia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business was… “how can I share my creativity with everyone”? I’m an elementary school teacher and in my classroom I am always thinking of creative ways to help my students. I always had a passion for crafting and making things, so I decided to turn something that was fun for me into a business. I kept mentioning to my husband how I wanted to venture out and start a business, and one day it just all came together. I thought long and hard about a name for it but one name just stuck out to me and that was Georgia Macc Designs. That name belonged to my great-grandmother Georgia Mack, who like most grandmothers held the family together. It’s just such a strong name and I love it, I love her.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My business creates and designs Tee shirts and other items. We absolutely love creating customized items for our customers.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My family and I love the State Fair! It’s such an experience! We wait all year for it to come back around!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I get so much love and support from so many people and I am grateful for every second of it! I would love to thank my husband for helping me start my business! I’d like to thank one of my good friends Lizbeth Garcia for mentoring me and encouraging me.
