We had the good fortune of connecting with Agie Anyanya and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Agie, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking has been a major principle throughout my life experiences. I always encourage others to take risks. If you’re afraid to take risks then you’re afraid to grow. Taking risks is a key factor in growing especially in business. Me pursuing a career in a predominantly male industry was a big risk. Doubts crept up in my mind and I was afraid to pursue that career at first because of outside opinions and because the odds were against me. Despite my fears I went out on a limb and took the risk of becoming a Live Sound Engineer and DJ. If I would have listened to my first mind then I wouldn’t be where i am today. So I always take risks even when I doubt situations because you never know what will come out of it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is music and it has always been something I hold dear to my heart. Outside of being a DJ, I am also a singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer. I used to create with no intention of releasing my art but now I have jumped over that hurdle and realized I cant be selfish with my God given gifts. My voice is to be heard and I know people can benefit a-lot from my story. I pour my heart out into my creations so I only want organic love and support on my art. My music is not your average and you’d be surprised at what I am capable of but I am currently working on an EP and I am excited to release my music to the world. Everyone I know has been wanting me to release my projects and I’m finally getting to the space of sharing that part of me to the masses.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First stop would be Rudy’s Chicken, That is a land mark in Dallas. You cant visit Dallas without getting some good ole Rudys. We would also have to visit the African American museum and the Perot museum. We would go eat at the food trucks that post up at Klyde Warren park, Klyde Warren is one of my favorites in Dallas since its in the heart of Downtown. We would explore everything downtown Dallas has to offer. Deep Ellum, Uptown, Greenville will be frequents on our itinerary. Those are my go to places to bar hop lol I love downtown! There is a drive through daiquiri shop right next to fuel city off riverfront so we would have to grab a daiquiri then get some tacos from fuel city thats a must in Dallas. We would also have to go to The Shops of legacy in Plano and get some retail therapy going on. I usually go there to shop, mingle, network, drink and lounge. We would workout every morning and go to a few trails and hike and ride bikes. I love being in nature and Dallas has some nice big trails. We would end the week long trip on Sunday by going to Word of Peace Intl. Ministry church, I am the sound engineer there and its a great church community so I would take them there to get that good word and worship in. After church we would go to Johnathons, thats one of my favorite brunch spots and then head to my one of my frequent Sunday Funday spots like 77 Degrees, my guy Chris over at 77 always shows me and my friends so much love. Good people over there! We would have a fun and eventful week, I know it would be so much more that we would do because I’m a pretty spontaneous person.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I first want to shout out God! Without God I am nothing! All glory and praise goes to the most high! So many people God has brought into my life have played a huge part in my life and success. I am thankful for the lessons and the blessings. Secondly, I must shout out to my family! My older siblings Ugonma, Chibuikem, Chinedum, my soul sister in heaven Jessica, and my parents have also played a big part in my life. They have always been my voice of reason. We get through every obstacle and hurdle thrown our way and always come out stronger than before. I am happy to be linked with such strong, goal oriented, like minded individuals and I admire the woman I have become. Praise God!
