We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Baxter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adam, what principle do you value most?
Communication. Communication. Communication! In the years I’ve spent building my brand, I’ve learned that pretty much any obstacle can be overcome with clear communication from all parties involved. It’s actually a guideline I use when interviewing potential bandmates: It doesn’t matter what you do outside of this band, as long as you’re where you need to be, when you need to be there. There are other people counting on you and your parts, if you can’t make it to a practice or something for any reason – just TELL someone about it ahead of time!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m most proud of how much I’ve grown as a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, but even more so of the diversity I’m bringing to my new material! I’ve spent literally a decade learning everything I can about not only how to be a better musician – but also how to better manage a band, handle all graphic design decisions (and artwork, separate business), and use social media as a tool to build the brand that is Without Sacrifice! By that I mean, I wanted to be able to put as much money back into the band as possible without having to come out of pocket. So rather than paying a graphic designer to come up with logos, flyers, etc – I went to school for graphic design and do it myself! To better improve the brand’s reach, I took even more courses and earned a Media Communications certificate and used what I learned to make it into the top 10 metal bands in the WORLD on Reverbnation.com, then held that level for 2 months straight! All of this took time, patience, and investing in myself – but it’s really paid off! With the lessons I’ve learned not only in school but in real-life application, I could write a novel of stories of “What NOT to do”, but on the flip side, those experiences have taught me a lot of what works and what doesn’t in various scenarios. Besides, I want the world to know about my brand through the music that I write.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
During my time in DFW TX, the places I’d frequent were mostly venues. BUT if you don’t have them where you live, you gotta get some Whattaburger! I know, not very fancy of me, but after moving back to Kansas recently it’s one of the things I miss most! If you want to catch a live concert without breaking the bank, I highly recommend the Haltom Theater in Haltom City and the Ridglea Venues (Lounge, Room, and Theatre) in Fort Worth! Prior to COVID, I’d also recommend the Asian Buffet over by Gas Monkey Bar & Grill (also a great venue, def worth checking out)… but I don’t know if it made it through the pandemic. Also pre-COVID, the Alamo theatres were the BOMB for movies and food!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, Jenn. She has been nothing but supportive of not only my music, but of everything that tends to come with the commitment that is live performance! Even when times were tough, she made sure I never compromised any of my music equipment unless I absolutely wanted to – we ALWAYS found another way to keep a roof over our heads! She’s been my biggest cheerleader, the inspiration to a lot of the band’s songs (especially when I first started out), and has missed only 2 shows in 10 years! She’s my rock, my love, and my inspiration!
