We had the good fortune of connecting with Abraham Salum and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abraham, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to have my own place, where people could come on a regular basis and hav e good meal, nor frills, just great food and service. A place they would feel at home and served by people they know well and trust.

What should our readers know about your business?
We change our menu at Salum every month, trying always to use products that are in season and affordable. We have never repeated a full menu in 20yrs! Starting a business is always hard but the trick is to keep it open, We have been through a financial crisis, pandemic and a major flood that destroyed the interior of the restaurant. Every time we have emerged better and stronger.
I have learned through all of this that I can’t do everything myself, motivating your staff and keeping them happy is very important, be positive and happy with what you do and never ever give up.
I would love the world to know we love entertaining, we respect our clients, staff and family, we strive every day to make people happy as that is what fill our hearts and soul.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend was coming to Dallas….
Dinner at Salum at least once, Dim Sum in Richardson, Korean. I would take them to babe’s for chicken or chicken fried steak and to Pecan lodge for barbecue.
I’d take them to visit Dallas museum of Art, Holocaust museum and the Arboretum. A stroll through the grassy knoll and visit the 6th floor museum.
Of course shopping in north park and if they are looking for little stuff Sam Moon is always fun. A little trip to Deep Ellum for drinks is always fun!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow, this is a tough one. I guess first of all my husband randy, who has always been supportive of all my crazy ideas and being the partner of a chef is never easy, we aren’t around for holidays, weekends and some celebrations. My staff some of who have been with me for 15+ years, your love support and hard work has made Salum what it is today. Our non profit partners, The Dallas Opera, Dallas Theater Center, Broadway Dallas and Crystal Charity Ball, your support and love all these years are the foundation of our customer base and we are thankful every day for being our partners!
