We had the good fortune of connecting with Abi Gallagher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was finally putting pen to paper for what had been on my heart for years to do! I love the heart and meaning behind tattoos but do not know if I can ever commit (and I know there are so many others like me!). I also wanted my calligraphy to be an encouragement to others so I blended the two and launched, Words for a Season! I began building a social media presence around my hand-lettering before launching my temporary tattoos in 2017!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have had multiple careers leading up to launching my business and am a firm believer that all the steps along the way have been ordered and have led me and given me the skill sets to thrive where I’m at today! I want to share with the community to never give up on the dreams you have in your heart – they are there for a reason! You never know whose lives are going to be positively impacted from your “yes”!

A little bit about the why behind my company – I offer a beautiful way to wear a meaningful word without the commitment of a permanent tattoo! How often have we had a word on our hearts carrying us through a season or love the idea of a tattoo but don’t want to commit? I’ve blended my love for doing calligraphy and desire for a tattoo, and created a community of women who wear Words for a Season to celebrate their highs and find strength for their lows.

I took the leap and launched Words for a Season in 2017 after having it on my heart for a few years. After running my business on the side while still working a corporate job the past five years, I recently took the leap to run it full-time! Which was scary but so rewarding! The journey of running a business on the side while also working a full-time corporate job was difficult with long nights and weekends but well worth the time and effort because I was doing what I love!

I love meeting people and sharing the heart behind my company! My temporary tattoos work as fun self-expression, but also as encouraging pep-talks to take with you wherever you go. Hearing stories of how my temporary tattoos have offered visual encouragement and have positively impacted my customers means the world! I have women wear my bride designs to celebrate their bridal season with family and friends, as well as had a woman share with me that she wore the word “strength” as she went through a difficult season full of surgeries.

If this resonates with you and you’d like to check out my products – I offer 50+ word and floral options to purchase via my social platforms, website (www.wordsforaseason.com), and local pop-ups. I also wholesale my temp tattoos and they are available in boutiques all around the US and Canada! I’ve had the honor of partnering with brands such as Anthropologie, Madewell, Magnolia, and Free People. Whether it’s a temp tattoo bar for an event, matching temp tattoos for a girl’s trip, or simply wearing a word to help you through a tough week – Words for a Season is honored to be a part!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m originally from Louisiana and moved to Dallas almost six years ago! I love this city and still have an ever-growing list of new places to try and enjoy! Here are a few of my favorites!

For food – a crowd favorite brunch spot (and a place I make sure to take all of my out of state friends) is Snooze! They never disappoint!
You’ll need coffee to fuel your adventures and some of my favorite places are: Foxtrot (best honey cinnamon lattes), Hola Cafe, Eataly (order a mocha or hot chocolate and thank me later), and La La Land!

For exploring the city – visit the Dallas Museum of Art and the Arboretum! Both are inexpensive and provide a sense of sophisticated entertainment!

For fun – shopping! Head on over to one of my favorite pockets of the city – the Bishop Arts District! You’ll be able to stroll along a vibrant street for some cute shopping (Oasis Plant Shop, All Good Things, and Etienne Market) and enjoy a delicious bite to eat from Paradiso. If Anthropologie were a restaurant, Paradiso is it! The design and ambiance is a favorite of mine.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m so thankful to my friends and family who have cheered me on in my journey over the last five years since launching, Words for a Season. As well as all of the helpful small business / creative groups in DFW that have been wonderful resources!
