We had the good fortune of connecting with Antonio McGhee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Antonio, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by other people’s success. Success looks different for everybody, but no matter what that person is trying to achieve it takes consistency and dedication and that is something that we all can be inspired by. Whether it be losing weight, buying a house, or even getting that new position at work, I love seeing others succeed. It gives me the motivation to keep pushing towards my goals, no matter the circumstances.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Football is my first passion. I earned a football scholarship to McNeese State University, where I graduated with a degree in Marketing. While attending I fell in love with all those South Louisiana flavors and spices and developed a passion for cooking. I moved to Dallas from Louisiana in 2019 with no clue about anything in this city. I moved here to coach high school football, but while coaching i was still cooking and getting better. The year 2020 happened and everything changed. I started getting the urge to start my own brand and business. Throughout a lot of prayer and growth at the beginning of 2022 i started my brand “G’s Cajun Kitchen” and have been pushing that ever since. The biggest lessons I learned was that before I wanted to dive into my business truthfully and give it my all I had to make sure I was in the correct mental state. To get in that correct state I had to talk to God and pray like I’ve never done before because I’ve never wanted anything like this before. I want the world to know that G’s Cajun Kitchen is authentic and one of a kind. It’s more than just food it’s a vibe, that’s going to keep getting better and growing.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A few of my favorite spots in the city are Mexican Sugar, Mike’s Chicken, Tokyo Harbor and any good chill lounge. I’m a homebody so if we are going to drink and have a great time i rather cook up a good meal at home put my bartender hat on, turn the music on and catch a vibe.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give credit to God and my fiancé Diamond. The prayers and constant talks of affirmation is what is pushing me to continue to grow and learn. I am no where near I want to be, but I always think about where I am since I first begun at the beginning of this year and I can’t do anything but thank God because I’m living in times that I’ve prayed for.
