Our community is comprised of entrepreneurs and artists and creatives – folks who have chosen incredibly difficult professional paths that often don’t offer any safety nets or guarantees. Nonetheless, we regularly hear that being a parent is a far greater challenge and so we asked some of these folks to open up to us about the things they’ve done as parents that they feel will have a meaningful and positive impact on their child.

Jarric Tucker | Actor

The biggest impact I had on my children is showing them the sky is the limit and you can do anything you out your mind to. I come off as a superhero to them and the feeling is incredible. Read more>

Being a parent and performing artist isn’t the easy road to take, but had I quit, my kids would’ve seen this action and they potentially would’ve quit on themselves. As I have practiced songwriting, performing, etc. my kids watch me enough to mirror much of what I do in terms of work ethics. To say this the most important thing I’ve done as a parent is illuminating hard work matched with a “never give up” mentality makes them believe their own future is plausible and possible. I am a stay at home mama to 3 little ones, ages 5, 3 and 6 months. One of the most important things I try to model for my children is to admit when I am wrong and ask for their forgiveness. In doing this, I hope to point them to Jesus and the grace He has for us. I want them to understand humility, grace, and compassion, and to be able to extend those qualities to everyone around them. Tamela Bowie | Business Owner/Entrepreneur

The most important thing that a parent can do for their children is to leave a legacy. I am not speaking in terms of a financial legacy but of a spiritual legacy of faith in Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I strive to be the best representation of Jesus Christ to my children as their mother, as a business woman and as a wife. I raised and led my children by presenting to them The Word of God as the best answer to life’s difficulties and its ups and downs. My children are grown adults now and very capable of making their own decisions for their life. However, the one thing I know that has been the saving grace and the greatest impact on their lives, is their love for Christ and His Word that I instilled in them. Now, they are going out and making an impact in the lives of others by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ just as I did in their lives. Read more>>

Ashley Gossett | Cake Designer

I am a mother of seven beautiful and wonderful children. The most important thing I’ve done as a parent in terms of the impact on my children was to start my own business. Although this isn’t my first business it is the one I have passion for. I want to inspire my children to work hard for themselves. It is nothing like self investment. Even if its not through their own business I want them to always stand up for themselves and win only to prove to themselves that they are worth the try. I started my family very early in life and I have never felt as strong and valid as I do now with my own business. I have struggled and strived for my children to show them where I came from and I hope they can see where I am going and how I got there. Maybe one day when I am not around and they feel like all is lost they can look to me and think my mother wasn’t a quitter and neither am I. Read more>>
