Artistic and creative careers are among the most rewarding, but they also come with unique challenges. We asked some of the city’s best creatives to tell us why they choose to pursue a creative career.

I chose to pursue this career because I was deeply moved by the way artists showcased their craft every time they stepped onto the stage to perform. From the lyrics and ad libs to the kicks, bass, and melodic elements in each song, their music evoked emotions in me like nothing else ever had. My mom always joked that I came out of the womb singing; I have been on stage my whole life. When it came time to go to college, I couldn’t think of anything that made me happier. After years of studying classical singing, I’ve fallen in love with opera as an art form and I’ve grown more passionate about doing what it takes to bring a production to life behind the scenes rather than being on stage. I have been passionate about the arts since I was 4 years old. I have always used various forms of art, such as poetry, songwriting, storytelling, singing, and dancing, to express my feelings. I believe that the arts are the best way to convey emotions. With this in mind, I have decided to establish a nonprofit organization that mentors youth in economically disadvantaged communities.
