We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anthony, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The legendary Jim Rohn said it best, “It’s all risky.” You’re better off betting on yourself to get to where you want to go.

I played in the NFL prior to real estate. I didn’t take the “normal” route via the draft. I worked my way up from the Intense Football League’s Odessa Roughnecks, to the Dallas Desperados and eventually to the Miami Dolphins practice squad. I turned down a job offer before deciding to chase the dream of pro ball. That was risky. It was scary, but I was confident in my ability and knew I had what it took to reach the highest level.

When I was with Washington, I had a chance to join the Jacksonville Jaguars or I could stay with Washington. There was a new GM in the building and all signs pointed to an entirely new coaching staff. I took the risk to stay with Washington and the following season I started 12 games, catching 871 yards. It was risky, but it paid off.

The biggest risks tend to have the biggest rewards. Risky doesn’t mean reckless. It could simply be following your gut when your parents are saying don’t do it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m entering my ninth year in the real estate business and am more excited than ever because this market requires more of you as an agent. Our clients have questions and need guidance and education on making sound decisions. Navigating high-interest rates and new terminology like “rate buydowns” can be overwhelming and is keeping some buyers on the sideline. There are good deals out there, we have to think creatively. For home sellers, the market could use a few more homes to be offered for sale. Our inventory is low and demand is up! Interest rates are keeping some potential sellers in their homes, but there may be ways to capitalize on your equity and upgrade the home.

What sets me apart is the level of value and care that I place on my clients. The relationship lasts well beyond the close of the sale. I’m here to be your trusted real estate advisor and help you reach your goals. Every asset I’ve included in my business is there to help buyers and sellers get across the finish line as smoothly as possible. I really do pride myself on my customer service!

None of this has been easy, but you must be committed to getting better. As I’ve grown in this industry, I’ve found what works for me and how to include that in my systems.

I’ve been through the home-buying process and there were some things that I did that I wouldn’t want my buyers to go through! If they decide to move forward, I want them to be educated and have the resources to make that choice.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m in the McKinney area and that gives me easy access to a wide variety of amenities and entertainment.

Downtown McKinney is great on a mild evening. Grab a burger and beer at Square Burger, and people-watch. There are a few shops down there to spend a few minutes in. If you want something more upbeat, I’d slide to Legacy West. I’m a big fan of Legacy Hall simply for the selection of food! Haywire is a favorite as well. Check out The Star in Frisco. Catch Hip Hop Brunch at Common Table on the weekends, and don’t forget the fried green tomatoes at Tupelo Honey. They also have some chicken and waffles that are fire!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many people deserve recognition, and I apologize if I miss anyone. Have to start with my mom. She held it down without complaint, she showed me how to work hard and keep a smile on my face. Having such a steady figure in the household helps me every single day.

All of the coaches from youth football days in Carrollton, Coach Jackson, Coach Rick, Coach Chuck. High school was Coach Roulette. He made it his mission to get as many kids into college for football as possible. I’m thankful for his commitment.

My crew from college are like brothers, Chuck, DJ, Domo, Billy, and Ronnie. They made college easier and more enjoyable. We didn’t win many ball games, but have memories that will last a lifetime.

Finally to the wife and kids. They give me to motivation to continually improve to be my best.
