We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Bang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I actually never was a risk-taker, and I have always thought it was important to have a plan A, plan B, and plan C, just in case things don’t work out. This has played a part in my life and career as well, because I started slowly in changing my work to only being a freelancer. I stopped doing my full time job when I saw a consistent trend in income and leads from my part time work as a photographer.

Of course, it’s good and necessary to take risks in our lives, but I think that we also have to consider potential losses and act carefully.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my business with the idea of wanting to connect with people. I have celebrated a lot of happy times in my life, like graduating college and getting married. I think it’s so great to be able to take photos of those moments in people’s lives. I always feel so proud when my customers smile while looking at their pictures or tell me how much fun they had during our photoshoot. It was really not an easy process getting to this point in my career, but I think that the majority of challenges I faced were internal. I worried a lot about whether I had the talent to go far, and sometimes it was hard to navigate the industry because I didn’t have a mentor or anything like that. As I have been taking photos, I have been lucky to meet a lot of other great photographers who have helped me. One lesson I have learned is to be humble and accept critique with an open mind. I want the world to know that I really do just want to capture memories and special occasions in a way that leaves a lasting impression.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really love Dallas, and one of the reasons is because the food scene is so great. If my best friend were to come visit, I would definitely recommend a lot of restaurants, like Hard Eight BBQ in Plano, Cris and John in Addison, Ari Korean BBQ in Carrollton, and Paris Baguette in Carrollton. I would also go with them to Legacy West to walk around and do some shopping.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been so lucky to have a lot of people in my life who have supported my career. My friends recommend my services, my family proudly talks about my accomplishments as a business owner, and I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my wife, Alaina. Even when I was just starting photography, she really encouraged me and told me I could succeed. She offers me a lot of advice when it comes to my work as well, and I think it’s nice to have a wife who is also like a business partner and friend who always cheers me on.
