We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren, Megan, Kristen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, Megan, Kristen, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I believe our experiences and circumstances impact our outlook on work life balance (along with everything else in life). Most recently, Covid-19 has obviously had an incredible impact on a shift in the mindset of work life balance. Also, on a more personal level, losing our mom in a tragic car accident in October of 2020 is a deep loss experience that has shifted our thoughts on many things, including work life balance. It’s given us a very real perspective of life and how little control we actually have. Living with the end in mind keeps us in check. When our final day here on earth comes, whether we know it’s coming, or don’t, what matters at that point? When we ourselves the answers to that question then usually our daily thoughts about balance sort themselves out in a way that aligns with our big picture beliefs and goals.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our podcast name, Girl, I Slept In My Makeup, is a metaphor for we all mess up in life and so let’s give ourselves and others compassion, grace and lots of love. One thing we’ve learned in the podcasting world is there is a flavor for everyone – so many choices out there – so the best thing we can do is simply be ourselves and keep it very real to allow for the most organic experience for our listeners and us! One thing we don’t do is act like we have this thing called life figured out so our mission is truly to learn and grow with our listeners as we interview so many interesting people, and also share about our life, what works for us, or doesn’t. Most of all we hope our listeners feel God’s love.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our shoutout is to a person who is no longer with us here on earth, and it still hurts to even type out those words. Our Mom deserves A LOT of credit and recognition in our story. As mentioned, she passed away in a tragic car accident in 2020. She encouraged us to create our podcast in 2019, and was our biggest supporter. We even got an impromptu interview with her that ended up being an awesome episode full of her wisdom surrounding parenthood. An episode we will treasure the rest of our days. Our mom shared the love of Jesus by loving ALL people so well; she was never too busy for whoever was sitting right in front of her, and she never left behind an opportunity to serve and help others. In our eyes, and in the eyes of all who knew her, she was THE definition of a Mother.
