We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole & Rachel Swann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole & Rachel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We both were in college. Rachel was a senior, Nicole was a freshman. Nicole had just joined a beginners photography class and thought she was a professional after three weeks. Rachel had taken one modeling class and thought that was enough combined experience to start a business. Neither of us had ever walked into the business building on campus or knew how to spell business. But, one day we got to talking about the idea of starting up a fashion business in some sort of way and decided on Nicole being the creative director/photographer and Rachel being the model/business side. We really didn’t know what to expect other than whenever we had free time, we would create art. We slowly worked on our craft and got better. Our first shoot was taken in the show. It truly was a bad photoshoot, but at the time we thought we had just created the best idea in our lives. Ever since then, we knew we wanted to create art and work with brands dealing in fashion.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are sisters who both have a love for photography and fashion and share the same goals in this industry. We love creating art through fashion photography. Getting into photography was rather easy but, getting into this niche of photography was more of a challenge. You have to be ready to do any kind of work in hopes of opportunity to come. This area of photography is all about new faces. For us, with only our 2 faces, it was difficult to come up with new ideas to feel innovative but also true to our brand. Tik Tok was a game changer for us. It allowed us to become content creators in a way that wasn’t possible before.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Easy, we start out at OMG Tacos. We would then make our way around the botanical gardens, hit up the Dallas Art Museum. We would drop by the AT&T District, maybe get some food from the shops there. Go to North Park Center to look at the expensive clothing and rich people. And of course, to wrap up the weekend, end with OMG Tacos.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our parents. They have supported us from the very beginning and have been there every step of the way. We owe them everything. If it wasn’t for them, we would have never felt we could pursue our passion.
