We had the good fortune of connecting with DARIO IMPINI and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DARIO, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been a creative person. I was into photography as a teenager and played guitar as well. For practical reasons I became an electrical engineer and spent 16 years in Silicon Valley where I hoped to express my creativity through product design.

Ultimately I found this career choice unfulfilling. I had made a good living but the stress was high and the creative outlet insufficient. At some point in your life it can be the case that you simply have to do something that makes you happy more than makes you money. As they say, money can’t buy happiness. No shade on the happy engineers in the world, but my worst day photographing has always been better than my best day engineering.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Through my entire career in photography I’ve always admired and been inspired by fantastic photographs. Images that make you wonder, bring a sense of comfort, harmony, serenity. Images that speak to your mind and soul I was humbled by artwork I’d seen on someone’s wall and think wow, that’s really beautiful. At first it was beyond my imagination to create something of that caliber. But after enough experience it became attainable. And then some time later I dared to want to become the best at it. To create incomparable, unique, compelling images that are unforgettable. Able to etch a seared image into the viewer’s mind that they’ll never forget even if they only see it one time, like that photo I saw decades ago.

I am grateful and humbled again to say I’ve had the good fortune and opportunity to create images whose admiration and appreciation will outlast me. Part of the process of creation was learning to be patient and waiting for the opportunity. I’ve tried to force it but if it’s not right, it doesn’t work. The inspiration has to come organically. The opportunity has to present itself. And you have to be ready and receptive to it. And when it does, you still have to work hard, it doesn’t just fall together on its own. But you know it’s right because it “flows”.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a relatively new transplant into Texas myself so my exposure to the DFW is that of an outsider. I saw ManifestIV, an industrial goth type band in Deep Ellum that pinned my hair back with their high energy sound. I really love the stockyard and restaurants in Fort Worth as well. Growing up in NYC, having lived in California, Indiana, and Seattle, Texas has a sensibility and flavor I really love and can relate to.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My artistic vision has evolved over the years and been shaped by many talented artists and muses. It would be difficult and actually impossible to list them all. One in particular was simply an anonymous photograph in a fashion catalog that remains etched in my mind. A truly striking image before the advent of digital photography that to this day influences my style. And this, after only having seen this photograph once.

But to identify one person who is most responsible for where I am today through their dedicated love, support, and encouragement, it would be a person who remains identified only by the characters 🌙🔑
